Freight Forwarding Companies vs Matson
#11
I heard that American Fast Freight is a good company to use. I am currently looking into having them ship some stuff for me.

StillHope - I hope that I am not hijacking your post and if you have a car to ship perhaps this is an option for you.

Has anyone shipped their car in the same container as their other belongings? We were considering Matson door-to-door service and then driving our car to LAX for shipment. But there is a questions that asks if a car or boat will be shipped in the same container. Just inquiring as to others experiences with this and pros and cons. Mahalo!

Well my mind got to examining this especially after reading that the container would be on wheels and approximately 4' off the ground. So I dug and found this quite logical question.

Q: How do I get my car in and out of the container?
A: Matson does not provide ramps of any kind. You can refer to your local Yellow Pages or Internet for equipment rental companies to obtain a ramp.

I also started thinking how it might be convenient to have your car apart from the other shipment. I don't know...

Matson does allow a car or boat to be shipped in the container so long as you tell them and pay the extra cost. If you do not tell them and they find out before shipping, the container will sit on the shipping dock until you are contacted and pay the extra cost. They also have strict requirments for the motor vehicle such as only a small amount of fuel in the tank, tie downs, and I heard the interior must still be empty. If you do manage to ship a motor vehcile in their container and didn't tell them and its damaged, they are not liable for any damage to undeclared vehicles.

When I checked into this with Matson, they wanted to charge the full amount for shipping a car PLUS the full amount for shipping a container. I did not ask if anything else could go in the container, as I had completely lost interest by then.

Try Pasha International to ship your car. It's the same amount Matson would charge you to put a car in a container & it's a lot less hassle.

Or ship your car through Honolulu Freight. They let you completely pack it full except for the driver's area, and they load it in their container. Our car came through just fine this way, and so did everything inside it. Great way to get your stuff here if you don't have a containerfull. Just another option...
