Attention HPP Residents!

Menehune, I just sent you an email with start-up information. I hope you get started soon, because your area is one of the most frequently victimized.

We are admittedly a bit paranoid reading these. We pack out all valuables with us when we leave. Everything of any value goes in a backpack that remains with us at all times... not that we are traveling with things that have a great deal of value in the first place. We also lock the place down and just deal with the heat when we return. We even close it up at night which kind of sucks because it can be quite warm and it is tempting to leave it all open. Thing is we are using very little of the house so it scares us to have something open across the house from where we are. We keep lights on outside and motion sensor lights pop on when a frog leaps by. Lots of fans in our room keep us quasi comfy. ;-)

Blake, take sensible measures but don't get too paranoid! You can leave your windows open at night, no problem. Burglars are diurnal in these parts and the last thing they want to encounter is people.

Yes, I say Blake leave your windows open so you can enjoy the night time breezes, part of the hawaiian experience. But, how about go purchase a small can of pepper spray and put it on the night stand for your own piece of mind. Check the expiration dates on them before purchase as the older they are the less they work and don't spray very far.

And then, I dreamt of Hawaii... http://crazypineappledream.blogspot.com/
Enjoy the day! Ann

Traveling through south america I got into the habit of leaving the "good stuff" at home. My original travel documents and credit cards in a hotel safe. All I would carry were copies of my ID and cash in a zip lock water tight bag. When traveling by bus through colombia we were often stopped, I never lost more that 20$ and a couple of baggies

I miss those days .... have fun on your property search in much more user friendly hawaii

I'm new to HPP and to Punaweb - what streets are you guys talking about? These break-ins next to you, Menehune, what street was that on? It would help me and my neighbors to know. I'm at 3rd & Maku'u.

So discouraging. This is definitely the down side of living in paradise. Very down, when I'm coming from a town and life where I never have locked up anything. My neighbor in Nanawale had her car stolen in broad daylight this week, while she was nearby walking the dog. We have been burgled twice. Both times it was a down-and-dirty quickie. I suspect ice plays a big part in the brazenness of the robbers. Common sense security and neighborhood watch groups are both important, but I don't think there is any guarantee that you or I won't be the next victim...

Keep the windows open and keep the car's keyless remote near the bed where you can reach it. If you hear a bad noise, press the panic button or the lock button, whichever one makes a BEEP or similar. Test it. I'll bet it works thru the walls.

Welcome to Punaweb, DTisme. This latest spate is near Makuu but closer to the water.
