Excessive use of quote function on Punaweb
#11
I do save space with my quotes, John.
What I did above was an example of what I'm seeing in posts, not the way I would do it.
The problem isn't which button people push, rather pushing quote and then posting the resulting gawdawful mess without editing. I said the button is not your friend to people who are using it reflexively and not thinking about the result, not to people who use it like you do.

That's the way I normally do it. I copy, code, and paste. It doesn't seem like a big deal to me one way or the other. My scroll wheel (or button on notebook) works just fine.

Edited because I hit } instead of ].

Kathy!

99% of the people on the forum don't use the full quote .Either using "Blah,blah.." like Mdd700 or just dots like me .

I actually can recall only one person who does it on regular basis.

And as I said,I used the "incorrect" way just once in almost 2 years

on the forum.

Starting the whole thread vs e-mailing a couple of people ...

Well..That's just my opinion.

Stillhope, Don't take this so personally, its not about you.

Fact is I delete a lot of unnecessary quoting. Often it occurs without reason or rhyme. A twenty line quote from directly above with a three word post below.

This is probably an unsolvable problem and it is not a big thing overall. But some of these threads can quickly become hard to read.

Hope,
I don't email people with criticisms of their posting. It's not polite. I only email when I have something good to say, and prefer others treat me the same. Talking about posting etiquette in the forum, within the forum, is done to raise awareness. I said in my top post it wasn't about you, and then I said it again, and you are STILL being defensive. It's not necessary. The people who do this a lot aren't even posting in the topic. I posted hoping people will clean up their posts. If that happens, wonderful. No one is supposed to feel bad or singled out. (Another reason not to email.)

Kathy,I meant that Rob would e-mail people since you already e-mailed him about the problem.
