D-9 falling in a Lava Tube ??

Well who knows wide screen tv coming down like balls of hail, 1970 calculators $1200 three years later $29.95, now $3.95. One can hope that other technologies will one day be within reach, like say solar for the sake of solar and not needing to leverage the baby!

a few years ago the county had some hove lots coming up in the tax auction, so armed with a map i went over and looked at some,it was like looking at lots on the moon, one was close to the highway and restaurant and i thought maybe that would be a good buy, when i got out of the car and took a look it had a giant hole taking up most of the lot, i mean it was like some of the craters up at volcano park, lol. locals were using it as their own landfill dump, which judging by the size of this hole would out last the hilo dump. the day of the auction the hove lots were going for about $1500 to $2000, and when the "crater" lot came up for bid 2 people started bidding on it, and as i sat there laughing my a** off the proud winner got it for $2200, i went up to him after the auction and asked him if he even went over to look at them and he said no, ol!

I wonder if you can turn a lava tube into a pre-excavated wine cellar?

Some people use them for growing mushrooms. The legal kind (I know where the Punatic mind was going)!

There was a report on Maui about a year ago of a woman living in a lava tube. When the county discovered this was going on, they told her she had to leave due to health and safety reasons. Her reply was something like, "I've been living in here for four years and feel quite healthy and safe, thank you!" Her mental health might have been a more appropriate avenue of exploration, given the description of conditions in her troglodytic domicile.

Cheers,
Jerry

My friends in Hi Acres use their's as a wine cellar - the tube had collapsed many years ago and it doesnt fill with water - about 20 x 20 x 10-12' height...

I remeber that article about the lady on Maui living in a lava tube. But, I thought it was concern about Hawaiian cultural issues that drove the county to evict her.
