Are you talking about Nani Mau Gardens, John? If so, that's under Ken Fujiyama's ownership/management and I'd be wary of cost and service. Has anyone had recent experience with Nani Mau?
Good place to have a coctail party in Hilo?

Our school had Prom there, in the downstairs room, there is also an upstairs room used by lots of civic groups and community organizations. It is a little thread bare in places, but the back lanai is really nice, and you might be able to arrange for just the lanai at a reasonable price.

John,
Are you talking about HCCC? The problem there is the reception has to be from two to five (years). And the only alcohol is made on site. [ ![]() ________________________________________________________________________ Seriously Carol, How about reserving a pavilion at wailoa Park? Beautiful and inexpensive, but I'm not sure about the alcohol thing.

Greg,
I'm not sure what you are talking about, but I was talking about the Nani Mau Gardens. The back lanai was beautiful, the rest of the place was a little worn, I've never been upstairs, I just know lots of groups use it for meetings and social gatherings, in part because they can serve alcohol. Carol

Thanks to everyone for all these great ideas!
I am thinking about rain, so outdoor locations, while beautiful on a dry day might not make it if it pours. I never thought of Nani Mau. I'll have to go look at their lanai. Frankie, the thought of not having to clean up until the next day is compelling! I bet your view was pretty good up there too. Thanks, Kathy for the link. I also think the BYOB thing makes it problematic. Thanks Cat for the film commission tip. I'll check into all these suggestions and I really appreciate all your help! Aloha, Alicia

quote:My friend just got married there a few months ago and it was a really nice affair. I don't know anything about the cost and the food was everything but gourmet, but their lanai is a nice place for a cocktail party. (However, that food might have been the choice of my friend.)[ ![]() ![]() ![]() Aloha, John S. For health reasons, you are not able to bring outside food into a restaurant. I worked at Nani Mau. I...don't recall anyone being able to bring their own liquor...and I just cannot see Ken approving that--but I could be wrong!!! There is this gazebo out in the garden that might fit your party, but when I worked there it was not used for such purposes.
I wish that I could be of more help but the Longhouse idea seems the best to me.
