Honestly, I was thinking about going, and bringing my work crew of about 10 people; I would be willing to pay a couple of bucks. But $10 is WAY too steep! For $10, people would expect actual FOOD- Luau pig, fruit salad, dessert- etc.
If this is for all the "yurt people", rather the general public maybe. But I can get enough information online, and cook my own meal for 10, for far less than $100!
Not everyone can appreciate the amazing people that have traveled to get here, or how much work was put into it. I've been to many events similar to this one, and when charging that much, people expect a certain level of food, entertainment, etc. If you are talking about providing an event for people already committed, educated and interested in yurts, this would probably fly-- but I wouldn't really expect many new faces for $10 a pop.

We have called it the Yurt Maker's Public Luau. We're planning food - Good food. And many other things. If people don't choose to appreciate it and have faith that it will be worth it, then they won't attend. That's okay! Enough people know us and know about the event to know it'll be worthwhile. It's a limited number of people that will be able to attend anyway because of the venue.
I'm confident it will be as it should be with the people there that should be there. Many pay $10 for a movie, $8 for a cheap meal out, $15 to go see one author... I don't understand why all the fuss about the small ticket charge... maybe I haven't been clear enough as to everything that will be going on and what is included??? Hmmm. Or maybe people want free food, free entertainment, free drinks, free rides, free one on one time with our guests... Well, who doesn't, right? But we aren't capable of paying for it all, though we'll be paying enough, and we don't have grant money or other funds to draw from on this part, so... I'm sorry! I hope you can save up and come if you want to.

Nice condescending attittude Yurt Girl ... People write in with some opinions and suggestions and you come back with that last paragraph ...
The is no "fuss" so don't take it so personally out on the rest of us.

Pog, I don't know who you are, but you seem to engage in these kinds of statements often enough, a bait and switch I've seen in many of your posts all over this forum. We're in charge of how we take things, if you feel that I was condescending and that I took it out so personally on you, then I'm sorry you feel that way. That was not where I was coming from, I was sincere in what I said. It might go a long way if you avoid make assumptions as to a person's intentions past their actual words, and avoid inserting your translation of what you think they are meaning to say and how.
I've put out an invite and asked for suggestions of what people would like to see there. I'm not asking for suggestions how to manage the inner workings of the event I'm hosting, I've got it covered. Suggestions for the event are welcome, but we were getting off track on the money thing, with people putting down the whole worthwhile event because of a small potential entry charge. Sometimes things can't be free if they are to happen. Many of us would like it to be otherwise, but it just isn't in the cards for all things. This is one of them. I promise, if I win the lottery, FREE ENTRY! Otherwise, I'm open to other worthwhile and positive suggestions. Hopefully you can read this with the sincere attitude I'm posting it with.

NOT taking it personally just, calling it ( and writing it ) like i see it Yurt Girl.
How is talking about the entrance fee getting off track ? You brought it up in your OP yeah ?
All I see here is people posting opinions and suggestions.
The "assumptions" that folks want something for free and insertions that talking about the fee is "putting down the whole thing" are yours. I can see your sincerity on this pretty clear.

Pog, I did not assume those things. I said maybe. Maybe you can re-read the post and not look for hidden meaning. Maybe not. Regardless, the post is about the yurt conference luau, not about you or I. If you want to PM me and argue, then my inbox would be the place to do that.
