Best damned idea I've heard this decade!

Elizabeth plays and (her marrying me being proof) she is always into a challenge!

I was also at Castro Theatre in San Francisco, Carol. I think the main reason that it didn't break the record was insufficient advertising. We only found out about it from Bruddah Bu's event postings on Facebook. Very few of our brother and sister ukulele haumana knew about it. If you do it, we could help get the word out about it in the San Francisco Bay Area.

You may already know the MC for the Castro event, Pahoa's Andy Andrews.

We've got a few players at Puna Baptist Church. Bet we could get them in on it.

Two people, two ukulele. Hubby knows how to play. I can learn a song. Sounds like a great idea and a good reason to make the next trip. How do we turn this into a fund raiser for the kids?

I'm also a Brit, and remember as a kid there was an english comedian by the name of George Formby who played a uke. Here's a clip of his most famous number.

mikewj - you know, I'm just old enough to remember the BBC showing Formby's "When I'm Cleaning Windows" every so often but I thought I'd wiped that whole image/song from my memory. I think I was successful until you mentioned it!

Now that song is going to stay in my mind for days. Thanks so much. [Wink]

Anyway, you got me! It was well known in the UK but bet it isn't now, at least with anyone a few years younger than me. Having said that, I love listening to the local ukulele talent as long as they don't sing about cleaning windows...

Wow, great responses, mahalo. Now I need to figure out some of the details and get my school to sign on, because this would be a really big effort. Any suggestions for a big enough space in Hilo to do this under cover (in case we get that Hilo rain)?

I think it would be very doable with a lot of volunteer efforts. I figure the fund raising part would be commemorative T-shirts and donated CDs for sale, food sales plus ticket sales to non participants if we can get some of the Big Island's fine musicians to donate their time and have a really good concert as part of the event.
