I disagree. I think it is unhealthy to not breathe.
Assume the best and ask questions.

"take energy away without Pele's permission"
How do you get Pele's permission?

IKE - this is space monkey with their tin foil hat stuff..
Normally there are no emissions from geothermal. Pele gives off thousands of TONS of sulfur dioxide and other gases a DAY. when there was an accident at the plant the measured level at the fence were below dangerous levels

Personally I'd like to see geothermal expanded here and on Maui. Easily enough to power the entire state and stop import of fuel for power plants. By far the least environmentally taxing, inexpensive, realistic option. I'm disappointed this hasn't gotten more of a push from the governor.

Armchair critics like me questioning HE pitching unproven tech like biofuels, windmills, underwater transmission lines, otec??
We point to models like Iceland- it's 100% AE but most of it is hydro power not geothermal.
Also the proven technology in geothermal is the Ormat/ Puna Geothermal but their seems to be other competing bids from born again geothermal entrepreneurs like Christine Kubat jumping on the AE bandwagon-

I am of two minds on geothermal - yes useful in uninhabited areas. maybe not so much in Puna with houses close by...
Okay that said, I talked with a guy at Airgensis.com and their technology could blow away (pun intended) the old school wind generation systems.
It was just patented and utility companies in China are talking to these guys. This is low velocity wind generation. Doesn't have to be a So Point or Waikoblowa/Kohala. Could even be located on the PGV site.
Why are we still thinking just in the little box?

Agree.. Its always been the Sun and Wind, again we are falling behind in the advancing technology's in these two clean and constant sources of continual energy.. Nuclear is NOT a solution, its a time bomb and so is Oil. But the Corporations put their money in fracking and deep water drilling.. Insanity seems to be the only thing that is sustainable in the energy Business...

FYI: Special Council Meeting regarding geothermal on April 24, 2012. Being held at Pahoa High School Cafeteria beginning at 6:00pm. Two presentations are scheduled, the first for health concerns and the second for cultural issues.
Please attend, and provide testimony, either written or spoken (3 minutes allowed per subject). Somehow our community needs to be heard, both for and against geothermal, and all cultural aspects need to be addressed (there are varied beliefs, no one Hawaiian can speak for others; there are 400,000 of us nationwide).
The Puna community (I believe, and am happy to be corrected) population is 45,000 approximately, and to allow a few to speak for our entire community is not productive, nor an accurate portrayal of our Puna.
Very pleased the County Council finally realizes Puna needs to be heard on this subject, as the future of geothermal includes a big portion of our island (HELCO's RFP at the PUC right now is for 50MG at Hualalai).
Hopefully, everyone will feel this is important enough to attend or provide written testimony to the Council. Mahalo.
