canic ceilings and other "old" building materials

Thanks for the info. Did not know this. House appears incredibly solid although it does have some termite damage. I saw some of those ceramic electric round things on some of the wood, so that is why I think it's really old. Also, the wood slat ceilings. I was told it's redwood, but who knows!

Ceramic insulators are what old-timers refer to as "knob'n'tube wiring".

You will probably find ceramic tubes where the wiring passes through beams.

Suggest you carefully extract all of these bits and list them on EBay; supposedly there are still places in the country that require this kind of wiring, and if not, there are probably some collectors out there.

Ironically, "grandfathered" knob-n-tube is perfectly legal unless/until you change it.

Oh how interesting! My house inspector was only worried, and looking for any aluminum wiring, which luckily I dont have.
