Minimum wage was not intended as a way to raise a family.Hawaii is a tourism state not a manufature to export! That is why no jobs for locals except Goverment type jobs. Goverment caused all farming to vanish and left locals no options except to please the tourism jobs.
Minimum wage on the main land is for a part time JOB ! Not full time work !
Wake up we live in a place to retire, not a place to raise a family
Gas @ $4.00 and wages toping $15.00 to $20.00 if you can find employment?

The quickest way to eliminate competition to stores like Walmart is to mandate a higher minimum wage. Smaller stores who are already struggling will close and future mom and pop operators will crunch the numbers, determine they can’t afford labor, and never open. Walmart and similar businesses will naturally fill that void.
The real problem here is the illusion of a “living wage”. Not all jobs need to be a “living wage”. When I was living with my parents and making $3.50 an hour, I could have never lived off that but I was happy to have the job. But that was the point, there have always been people in the labor force who want or need money but do not need to “live” off it. When I hear about fast food workers demanding $15 an hour I cringe. Fast food jobs aren’t supposed to be careers paying a living wage. Originally they were for young people entering the work force for the first time and learning how to be employees and getting paid a little money for their education. Later, retired folks started working for a little extra money to supplement their retirement income. Then the economy tanked and high school kids started getting passed over by fast food joints hiring college students, then graduates, and other people desperate for money who started demanding a “living wage” from an industry who has never paid one before, and would have never been expected to just a few years ago. If I were a fast food corporation, the first thing I would do to nip this in the bud is go back to hiring only teenagers. No expectation of a living wage. Problem solved.

Get an education or a skill. Learn how to create something of value that an employer desires. Stocking shelves full of EBT eligible products is merely assisting the transfer of wealth from the haves to have-nots. Not worth $15 an hour.

Who is spreading the "propaganda" on the the evils of the minimum wage. The corporations, of course. (Corporations are NOT big companies -- they're a whole other species.) Who HATED corporations: Jefferson did, Andrew Jackson DESPISED them, Lincoln said that they would be the ruination of the country, and T. R. Roosevelt said: “Behind the government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance ... to the people. To destroy this invisible government and to (end) the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task ... of the day.”

Turns out it's not just Walmart workers.
A third of bank tellers survive minimum wage by accepting public benefits.
Basically, a direct $900M/year subsidy to the big banks. Obviously they can't afford to pay their tellers more, it might cut into their multi-billion-dollar profit, or force them to reduce the average $550M/year paid to their CEOs.
Some feel like they are special, They wake to someone who makes their bed for minimum wage. Then they go out and eat what was grown and cooked by folks making minimum wage, When their done with that meal someone will wash those dishes for the special ones for only minimum wage. The special then use the restrooms usually kept clean by those on minimum wage. Hey, I like anyone appreciate being catered to now and then, yet the best feeling is the one your left with after giving. I'm sure there are a lot of families across our state and great nation who could really use a bonus for their hard working daily contributions. America and Obama has a chance to make a difference for the 48% of Americans who don't own some stock of Walmart. J.M.O P.S I would like to add some cringing and say those who are willing to work those kind of jobs and show up with the right work ethics deserve $ 20.00 AN HOUR. Then maybe those same good people can spend a little time with there children to raise them with values that matter, but aren't treated special.

Why do the majority of people think the minimum wage should be $15 or $20 an hour??? Seriously, $15 or $20 an hour to flip burgers? To me, that is an entitlement mentality. Minimum wage is just that...MINIMUM wage. That is what burger flippers should be making is minimum wage. If you want more than minimum wage get an education or perfect a skill that is needed or provide a service that is needed. It is called MINIMUM wage for a reason.
I'm sure I will get lambasted for daring to say that people should actually have an education or something of value to offer but to many damn people just expect things to be handed to them. They should get a $20 an hour job...just because. Walmart, Home Depot, or (Insert Name of other EVIL corporation here) should give their money to other people, well, because they have it.
If you want more money then go out and get it. Offer a service no one else does, find someway to get what you want without expecting it to be given to you or for other people to provide a means for you.
