Opihikao - just in case, I learned very quickly the difference between Opihikao and Opihikaobob. I know you were concerned about possible misidentification a few months back. The fact is, as you pointed out, we have another storm on the way and how on earth do we know this unless "THEY" want to tell us in advance. It's all utter and complete nonsense, same with the Fukushima fear-mongers although I don't think they've quite reached the level that Bob has. Yet. But they are getting there.

Not everything in the first stage is found to be true. Probably 90+% is found to be false.
In the second stage, some ideas touted as being true are opposed because they are wrong. Think apartheid or WWII German policies.
What's left in the third stage may be true, but there's a lot of crazy left behind in the first two stages.

Thank you, TomK, for understanding. I feel for our host who has provided this forum, and must deal with all of it.

The cold front which soaked most of the State is now over the Big Island with a few scattered showers for Maui and the Big Island. Drier conditions Saturday, although moisture from the front along with another incoming disturbance might bring heavy rain and a slight chance for thunderstorms Sunday night through Wednesday.

I think you guys should lay off the crazy guy. This is "punaweb" and he does bring a fairly accurate "puna" view (at times) not condoning/endorsing any of his beliefs but juat a thought about crazy folk or 'punatics'...

HOTPE - I like to quote Carl Sagan in cases like this:

There is another quote of Sagan's that I think is particularly relevant to this island because of recent events, at least in my opinion:

We might get away with it for a while, but sooner or later this combustible mixture of ignorance and power is going to blow up in our faces.”
I'm not sure sure I'd go as far as Sagan on this, but the combination of science, technology and ignorance is a problem and I see it every day unfortunately. I'm not advocating a return to simpler times, quite the reverse, but if the ignorance part can't be fixed, which is probably education, then I'm troubled about the future. I find that scarier than things like Fukushima and climate change.

Tom, I think your priorities are spot on. That the county council could pass the anti-GMO bill with the margins and near-fanatical support that it did really concerned me. Not whether someone wants to only eat organic food or only support permaculture or whatever, but that the powers-that-be would create legislation whose only basis is an anti-science denial of the facts of the matter and large numbers of people are good with that. Seems very similar to attitudes denying evolution or climate change, all based on ignoring large bodies of evidence and experiment in favor some ideology. It really does seem scary if this anti-science, ignore-the-facts faction starts writing more such laws.

Here we go again; Peteadams brands people against GMO as being anti science. Does being against Thalidomide (developed by scientists)make a person "anti science"?
Science cannot be good or bad, it's just science. Every product of science isn't automatically good either. DDT? Depleted Uranium? Silicon Breast implants? Butane Honey oil extraction? There's always room for debate, and branding someone as "anti science" because they disagree is disingenuous........
