I'm with Abe. We have to start somewhere. What better place than here? What better time than now?

Just look at all the plastic garbage washing up on our shores. Paper production is not good but better than it used to be. Bottom line is paper will decompose, plastic not so much. While you may be responsible, not everyone is. All that plastic has to go somewhere.

This not going affect the Ace President's Day sale next month? Where they give u the paper bag and give u big discount for everything in it.
Last yeat I heard the cashier going "eh uncle only 1 bag per customer." Wasn't me though.

quote: I agree 100%. Instead of banning the bags they could have just said whatever the bags are made of must be compostable. I used to work at a small plastics injection molding facility and we put more plastic in the dumpsters each day than a person would use in their lifetime. Only about 10% of the waste was good enough for recycling.

"Don't put your produce on the belt unless you are going to cook it or wash it really well."
I usually do wash it really well and since they switched from paper in the produce section to plastic (yes years ago that was small paper bags too), I put all my produce in the plastic bags that are still ok.. but no will never be recycled... I agree the ban was nothing more than a political show, and will do nothing to help the environment. What it did do though is make it a nightmare for store security.

Yes, all that plastic has to go somewhere, so does all the rest of the trash, into big strong heavy duty plastic bags...

Not just with bags, but all take-out stuff too. Though I suppose if the compostable plastic just gets thrown out with the rest of the trash, it isn't really composting. But I agree it would be better. |
