I would just like to say mahalo nui to all those who are making an attempt to understand the Hawaiian belief of Pelehonuamea. It is far too easy these days to come across malihini who refuse to even acknowledge the beliefs of the host culture.
It is quite refreshing to see others (even if it is only on an online forum) give the thought of Pele a chance. She is, like the OP said, our kupuna. Many of us can trace our genealogies back to this mana wahine, and we know that when she does destroy, she does so for good reason. While we may not understand her work, history has proven that she and her siblings always make sure to allow regrowth and vegetation to occur in time.

I talked to a Hawaiian man last week while waiting for my truck at Firestone. He said Pele is traveling in a straight line and is on a mission of some sort. He thinks she's headed for the geothermal plant with intent to return it to the natural state. Something to think about.
I don't know how I got over the hill without getting to the top.

There's something so wrong about this but I know it'll upset some people, so won't say what I'm feeling. Hopefully one or two people can figure it out though.
PS. Lin - my comment is not aimed at you, just what you quoted. Just wanted to make that clear.

Just allow people to express their feelings, or convictions. Nothing wrong with that. Extremism, as we see it on the middle east, is a different story. Please, do not allow your beliefs to think they are better from what the locals think. This is their AINA and we are all guests in this beautiful world, wherever we are..
Respect your "new" place. Just saying..

I guess romanticizing or making a volcano spewing lava something of a mythical story has nothing wrong with it, sounds beautiful.
Just please keep in mind all that has been said on this board about mainlanders and fend for yourselves and please do not procrastinate as this is a very serious matter that will keep happening for eons.
May your travels take you somewhere safe and best of lucks.

Pog - if I post what I think I'll be banned from Punaweb for life. Not going to do it. This place is too much of a resource for me to risk that. And I've been holding my breath for years with the MK stuff as well, so this isn't new.
Tread lightly, live another day.
