pahoated,
How much does the average natural food store make in sales on a monthly or yearly basis?
How many hours do Island Natural's employees work per week, average?
What is your background in the industry, that allows you to estimate the effects of spoilage on a food stores net profit?
What does your last sentance have to do with the profit of a food store?

Dang guys; I don't agree with Ted on a lot of stuff, but where's all this hating coming from. Tomorrow we celebrate one of the candy holidays and I wish everyone would just lighten up a little.
BTW; The Natch will be open tomorrow for your chocolate needs.

I'm trying to get to the good stuff as well snork. It's just that my mom won't let me eat the solid chocolate bunny until I finish a connect-the-financial-dots natural foods coloring book.

The disclosure form is personal, not corporate. So, it lists the Senator's personal income, not the income of the corporation. It is saying he takes out more than a million from the corporation.
Would the Senator stand to gain money or a thing of value due to his vote on a matter that came before him in the Senate? That is the test of a conflict of interest.
I happen to think that their is no scientific evidence to support the assertion that "organic" food is better for you. I think it is high priced food sold to people who have been frightened by the media and the health food industry.
That said, I don't know of any legislation that would affect the profits of Island Naturals. If the Senator votes to ban GMOs or not, I don't see how that affects his profits.

For one thing A LOT of the food in natural food stores, including the natch, is 'GMO'.
Just because it's sold in a natural food store doesn't mean it's 'GMO' free.
Another thing is even organic food can contain 'GMO', albeit, just a small percentage.
If 'GMO' were banned it would certainly affect all food stores and consumers.

As a percentage of his income that's about as impressive as me donating $40 to a cause. I gave 5 times that amount to the last AIDS Walk. Sorry, not impressed by this.

Well, not to defend the extravagant Mr. Ruderman too much; he was probably busy with his whole employing dozens of people, representing thousands, and playing in his band. The pittance he donated was probably an oversight. Thank you robguz for all you do!

Wait -- I thought Graham Ellis was Ruderman's only constituent? Otherwise how will they manage to build the geothermal power plant on Kehene beach?

Plenty of poor food choices made by ebt card holders all over. I see them getting armfuls of candy at 7-11 and the most expensive steaks and shrimps at Malama.

Exactly. The store (corporation) may have $10m in profit annually, for all we know, keeping $9m as retained earnings.
