It's also a marvel to see how flows from just a few years ago have ferns and ohias stalwartly colonizing already. In the distance you see just how far Pu'u'O'o has come in only thirty three years.

I was absolutely shocked to see the ferns growing in the lava that just spared Pahoa, when I visited there last weekend, amazing.

the flow has gone 1.2 km in one week so maybe we should start taking bets on when it will reach the ocean.

I was hoping Mother Nature would put on that fireworks show for the Fourth of July, but it looks like it may take a little longer.

My guess is July 30th.
