For the mimosa plant or sleeping grass: I put on my pair of thick leather gloves and out they come without any thorns in my hands. The pliers sounds like a good option too. I've heard the sleeping grass roots can be used to make some interesting medicinal beverages.
As far as grasses and little plants like the mimosa, I've been having trouble trying to keep up with honohono grass. http://www.ctahr.hawaii.edu/invweed/Weed...iffusa.pdf This plant grows so fast I can barely keep up. Weedwacking it has turned out to be a bad option because the little pieces spread everywhere and grow. I have the tedious task of hand pulling.
