Hungry Boys and Girls

Children deserve to be protected from bad parents, this is the responsibility of society.

One thing a bunch of you are missing is the that most of the kids at Boys and Girls club are there after school because their parents are at work, and probably not at high paying jobs either. As another person posted, all growing kids are usually starving by the time they get out of school, the Boys and Girls club provides a safe healthy environment for those kids on a shoestring, which includes snacks. If people in the community want to help with providing healthy snacks they can.

Giving or not giving help with those snacks isn't going to solve the issues of multi generational welfare dependency, drug addled parents, or the limited low paying jobs available to Puna residents, it will just feed some kids who are hungry after a full day at school who will not be home to raid their Mom's refrigerator until dinner time, because their parents are at work and they are safely at the Boys and Girls club. Non profits like this have limited funds and food is expensive, if the community helps with the food they have more money to serve more kids, or the kids just get better snacks. Helping out is not going to create a massive tidal wave of dependency, it will just make some kids in Puna happy and help a worthwhile program.

I made a conscious decision to not have children, primarily based upon an honest assessment on the cost of rearing a child and my ability to provide consistently for 18 years. I am already doing my part by not contributing to the problem, I wish others would do the same.

Once the kids are old enough to go to Boys and Girls club it is a little too late to choose not to have them. They are here, we hope they will grow up into productive adults someday, community support for things like Boys and Girls club can help with that.

Okay so I don't know about you guys but feeding "needy" hungry children and feeding kids at an after-school program are two different things in my book.
Sure if you're rich enough and want to feel good about yourself and make a difference go ahead and feed someone elses child. However in my case the parents of these kids drive nicer cars and probably make the same amount of money or more than myself. Most of the kids that sit at the a+ afterschool program are NOT children of poverty stricken parents. BTW this isn't speculation. The kids that ARE really "starving" are the ones that I referred to with the drugged parents that do not work and do NOT have kids at the afterschool program. That would be too difficult and require a pick-up. The drugged out parents rely on bus.
There is a difference between starving and hungry. Sure I was a growing kid and was hungry too, I remember coming home very hungry but I got fed and so do these kids that come home hungry from the after-school programs. but I wasn't needy. There's a difference. The kids I was talking about with the neglectful parents are really the ones that need it. Not the ones you were talking about shockwave.

EW,

What precisely is your point? If you don't feel inclined to donate to this after school program fine. Buy why would you work to discourage people who would?
Assume the best and ask questions.

Lol I may sound like scroodge McDuck here but seriously there is an obesity problem in Hawaii with schools youths. Go ahead and give them an extra meal. I never heard about the starvation epidemic. Or at least the starving children here don't look like the emaciated kids from Ghana.
My point, Rob is to donate food and not money to the right place (where the really needy can benefit) and that isn't easy to figure out.

Well I have a policy here of allowing people to promote themselves and their interests on Punaweb for free without being attacked. We had a former member who wanted to play critic on other people's hopse and dreams. He is gone. Take note.

That doesn't mean discussions and differing opinions are not allowed.

Assume the best and ask questions.

You bet Rob. Attack is a powerful word. Show where. Just chiming in with an honest REALISTIC opinion.
