What is native Hawaiian view on eating turtle?

I can see how allowing harvesting would create a sense of being invested in the welfare of the turtle population. OTOH it is hard to see how that could help more than the killing of actual turtles would hurt.

If it’s cultural then OHA would be in change of it. Guess how that would turn out
