...which would just about cover the HPD overtime bill:

Hawaii county council member raises = $ 163,000

Total raises = $461,000 per year ... forever

Hold all increases of this size for 10 years and the budget is solved

Still less than the finance charges on Kenoi's bond-financed park building binge.

(Speaking of which ... anyone else notice the "new" soccer field over by Suisan ... still not open, just overgrown and rusting away...)

Why didn't Council vote against 3.5 million for an unused soccer field?

Why didn't Council vote against an extra $50M in bond debt?

Do we really need a County Band? Couldn't all the seniors in Zumba, karaoke, ukulele and other classes pay more than $10 per 10 lesson session? How about all those golfers at the municipal course - since every Trip Adviser review states how inexpensive it is, maybe we should raise those fees a bit too. I love the zoo, but maybe a $5 per car parking fee is in order. Bottom line, the County government is doing too many frivolous "nice to do" things at a time when there isn't much in the way of discretionary funds.

What about the savings from no longer maintaining Isaac Hale Beach Park? No more lifeguards at Warm Ponds, no more mowing the County setbacks in the Rift Zone, etc.

The last round of raises took effect in March -- but there's already discussion of another round of raises?

"Services to the public are the last to be cut," Kim said.

Really? What other cuts were made before "closing the pool somtimes", cancelling the parade and summer programs?
