From Obie’s link:
“I also think that we have enough folks who are sitting around the table who are saying ‘Let’s do it right,” said House Majority Leader Rep. Della Au Bellati.” Let’s not just rush into things and let’s do it right.”
That’s funny. To me it sounds more like “let’s not do it at all.”

I know this one: it's a variation on doing it in the right way which is a local expression meaning money will flow to the right pockets.
Decriminalization will also fail for the same reason. State isn't interested in doing anything around marijuana that might not pay.
Fully illegal: Federal interdiction dollars.
Fully legal: taxes, licenses, permits, fees.

I am curious. What was Joy San Buenaventura supposed to do about dengue fever. Did she slow down DoH in some way?

Act concerned in front of her constituents so as to send the right message?
I don't really expect our "elected" "representatives" to "actually" "do" anything, but at least they could pretend to be concerned about the issues that affect us. Focusing on marijuana dispensaries while people are getting infected with dengue sends the wrong message. Unless that message is "smoke two of these and you won't notice the dengue".

Personally I am convinced Joy can walk and chew gum at the same time.

We elected her to provide a way so we could have dispensaries. That is what she was doing .
Imagine that !
I have been through at least 4 dengue scares.
This is about all you need to know.
1.Get An insect repellent with DEET.
2. Use it.
3. Get rid of standing water.

I wonder what percent of Joy's constituency feel that medical marijuana dispensaries are their number one concern? Especially when compared to how many at the time she made her 'give em pot' speech were more concerned about the dengue outbreak?
The way I saw it Joy was caught unawares. What that means about her overall ability to serve her constituency is another matter entirely. But no matter, it was a classic moment in local politics.
It does however remind me of something my local political hero would say:
Don't worry, be happy.

Glinda,
I suggest that if you have a beef with Joy San Buenaventura you look her up, talk to her about it, and let us know what you learn. Otherwise you are complaining with little or no evidence.

Not setting the bar very high, are we? Oh, well. This is Puna after all.
I have had two conversations with Joy about specific issues. Once on a non-dengue healthcare matter, she quickly became engaged and actually did some inquiries which, through no fault of hers, did not produce results. It spoke well for her willingness to go to bat for a constituent. That was via several emails, so its possible that a staffer handled some of the communication. The second time, I tried to discuss a transportation (Highway 130) concern with Joy in person. She came across as an ignoramus unable to speak in coherent sentences, especially given the fact that she had mentioned the matter in some campaign material. So my personal experience has been very uneven. The gaffe on dengue pushed me toward the non-fan side, but I will admit that there is potential there. Meanwhile, can anyone list some specific legislative accomplishments of Joy's that have come to fruition? That should carry more weight than my personal encounters.
