support one of our LOCAL economies

The sorters, loaders, and drivers at Honolulu & Hilo FedEx/UPS/USPS are all employed locally when you buy a $3.00 bag of coffee, if you are unable to afford $25 local coffee every time you brew a cup. The local trolls keep themselves busy and occupied as well.

Win-win

I try to buy local when I can. Any idea where I can do airport parking in Hilo without giving my money to Big Parking?

If over ten days, cheaper to rent a car for a day and drive back and forth* Can save a lot on parking and your car is home and safe out of the weather.

*You need two people for this.

I know a taxi from ITO to Orchidland is about $50 plus tip. Any idea how much an Uber is? (I'm told Uber can go to Hawaii airports now).

Don't forget that some of the car dealerships will store your car for free while you are out of town if you schedule it for an oil change or other repair/service on your way out, and they have free courtesy shuttle to/fro airport.

"cheaper to rent a car for a day and drive back and forth"

I recently traveled to the madland and my car rental on the mainland was cheaper for the same number of days than paying to park my car at KOA. Crazy that it's cheaper to rent a car and drive it around than it is to pay to have your car sit and do nothing.

I think Amazon could benefit from building a fulfillment center for the islands utilizing the workforce population and little used Hilo Airport, compared to using Honolulu with its air traffic and high rents. Have shuttle cargos to service up and down the chain, so two drops and pickups a day with a mainland schedule the same.

terracore - just checked my Uber app - about $38 from the airport to Orchidland Estates. Bear in mind this is late evening - I suspect it would be cheaper during the day.

Just looked it up on Lyft,
$34 to mid-way up Orchidland.
Once you start using Lyft, they routinely give you discounts as well.

Indeed, that's what happened when Amazon tried to open a new center in New York.
I was thinking that too, when will a business like Amazon or an airline like Southwest realize what a gem Hilo Airport is.
