Just my $.02 from what I read elsewhere...apparently this poor woman is a well-known local homeless person around Hilo, and is mentally and physically disabled. What sickens me most about this is that this somehow suggests that she may well have been sexually assaulted 9 months ago and is not possessed of the mental capacity to even know what had happened to her, or that she was pregnant, and so that is what caused the horrid situation.
And that just horrifies me.

Right on chrashd.. welcome aboard. I love your opinions.. not that I agree with them, but man, your's are as much a part of the fabric of our lives as is anyone's. But you have to grok, so are those that come back with opposing opinions. And you have to acknowledge the orange moron's talking points really don't mean much in a thread about a local tragedy..
As to those other issues, Hawaii is not immune to the effects of the state's southern border immigration. We too depend on a constant influx of new workers and many of them become a part of our labor pool after coming across the border.. And, before Covid changed everything, we were beginning to suffer under the lack of new labor as was the rest of the country. You see man, the entire country is dependent upon a constant flow of new labor.. and since most Americans aren't all that eager to do certain menial jobs the country can't afford to sustain the fear mongering the GOP has made up to sway their fearful constituents. It's just not tenable man.
So yeah, express your opinions, but don't expect them to be universally embraced, especially when you wave that orange moron's flag. look around man, this is a blue state. A very blue state. Thankfully.

The OP was about some woman giving birth to a child on a street and walking away and now we're onto Trump, Biden, immigration etc. I guess some people can't help themselves. Anyway, is there an update to the original story?

Thanks. There doesn't seem to be much more news than the original report, but at least we're off national politics for now.

That ultra-cheap labor is what has kept Hawaii in the dark ages instead of raising the standard of living.

Unfortunately, mental health and related programs have seen significant funding declines at the Federal, State, and Local levels over the past decade +. Homelessness is more often linked to mental health and substance abuse, with misfortune playing a lesser role. While various homeless housing plans have been attempted, the housing guidelines, including curfews, therapy, or drug rehab requirements, are widely rejected by that population, leading to many failures. If you have ever worked in or related to the homeless, this is clearly understood. The individuals have no qualms in stating these facts; they don't like the rules, and they can even occupy beachfront or prime real estate.
While the delivery in this thread was very right-leaning and off-putting to some, the overall issue is intricately tied to politics, spending, and budget priorities. Some programs take precedence at the expense of others. It's crucial to hold politicians accountable for tax dollar allocation. An extremely valid question arises: should resources be directed toward housing 8 Million + ILLEGAL migrants or addressing the needs of 8 million homeless American citizens, including many U.S. veterans, focusing on their housing, mental health, and substance abuse challenges? Additionally, it's important to note a perceived lack of Aloha toward conservatives in this discussion, and forum in general.

Have you ever seen a pie chart of how Hawaii state tax dollars are spent? Nearly 1/3 is under the umbrella of medical and healthcare. Which I assume includes people without homes.

I think the notion that the Republicans are in anyway ‘conservative’ is a joke. But I agree, we're short of tolerance for liars and thieves..
