how easy it is for you to see the road, or even the wall in that picture. That was taken from our yard, which is lit
If I’m driving when it's dark I have my headlights on. I don’t depend on residential lighting to drive at night.
you already know what to look for.
I’ve driven on many roads for the first time, not knowing what to look for. And yet, never drove into a rock wall.

At this point, blame it on the black, rock wall. How is one supposed to see a black, rock wall in the dark?
Maybe Patricia should paint it a reflective orange or place some high visibility reflectors on it? Instead of just complaining, DO SOMETHING.

A crash barrier in front of the rock wall might help. What's the speed limit there-20 mph? I find it hard to believe an accident at that location involving a modern car that is not speeding could result in a fatality.
Certainly it's a more forgiving place for a drunk, inattentive person not wearing a seatbelt to crash than many others I can think of.

1. First issue: drunk drivers. I would say you can't "engineer" drunk driving safety, but the Feds are trying. In Washington State, new signage in rural areas is so reflective that your own headlights blind you. Will you see Bambi before it is too late? 2. Drivers that "know" the road. How can that be a problem?? Imagine your car's electrical system goes out...dead battery or alternator or... Now imagine you are in your favorite subdivision and this happens to you just over the whoop-de-do (hill) that is a blind spot for traffic behind you. Pull over? Where?? You barely have enough room to avoid oncoming traffic. Now, in the dark, there you are sitting at the bottom of said hill. Now, someone is going home on a road they know like the back of their hand. A little over the ridiculous speed limit, cuz ya know, like the back of your hand...and there you are! No, street lights aren't the answer. No "one answer" to all this. Back in the early 1960s, I loved to drive. Not so much anymore. It's like playing chess while some drivers are playing checkers, but hey, we're playing for keeps! Okay, your turn.

Sounds like the wall and house should be taken by imminent domain and knocked down. Surely safety trumps the owners rights?

At the bottom (ocean) end of Paradise Drive it veers left and becomes Paradise Ala Kai. There’s no intersection and yet people drive into the rock wall there too. There are reflectors, signs, and a stop sign one block before the curve. Yesterday I saw a car speed through the stop sign without even slowing down, but fortunately managed to stay on the road and not hit the rock wall. It was 5 PM and plenty of daylight. It’s not the road, there’s no intersection, it’s broad daylight. And yet…

Clearly rock walls are the enemy and should be banned. Who really needs a rock wall? It's a monument to someone's vanity and clearly they are killing people. If it was a fence covered in lilikoi vines, it would provide the same privacy and be much more forgiving when innocent people forget to stop.
If we can't control unstoppable forces then I say down with immovable objects!

I drive thru there often to visit a friend. I have seen so many near misses, it is unreal.

All owners of rock walls and for that matter any immovable object should be required to tear them down or affix these protective devices. My airbag protects you and yours protects me.
