chayote
#21
Picked up a couple chayote in KTA and have them on my counter, hoping they'll sprout. Can anyone tell me which end sprouts, stem or blossom? I don't know which end to point up, or maybe just leave them lying on their sides? This is gonna be a fun experiment!

To plant.. get it wet, lay it on its side at a 45 degree angle with the smaller end slightly up. It will root at the wider bottom. You can do this before any sprouts are showing. Keep it about 3/4 of the way burried and damp, then just be patient. It will seem to do nothing and then all of a sudden... BOOM.. it sprouts, a vine rises and it runs all over!

Finally, two of my three KTA chayote have sprouted and have been tucked into pots -- will move them outside when they get going a little more. Third one is just sitting there, not sprouting but not rotting so there's still hope for it as well. Can't wait for the vines to take off -- this is such fun!

A lady at work gave me a sprouted one...so THAT's what it is!!

I put it in a pot and hopefully we'll see some action here. She called it "Sayote." She said it's great in stir-fry.

I've been so curious what you all were talking about![Smile] http://ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/PunaWeb...w/7385?b=3&m=f&o=0
