Carrie and Tony Update
#21
MLS number 170789 (check it out on www.hawaiiinformation.com).

It had been listed originally at $290,000 reduced to $270,000 and the day they arrived, it was dropped to $240,000. That's when it caught my radar and although they hadn't been considering it before they arrived, I knew it could be a good fit. And it was.

Aloha,
Carrie and Tony stayed at our vacation rental in Orchidland, 5 minutes after meeting them they seemed like old friends. They had a very productive vacation finding their new home and a job for Tony. Before leaving for the airport they showed us the new house unfortunately they didn't have the keys so we couldn't go inside but the outside and gardens are very nice! Kudos to John Dirgo for his hard work! Wow! Very exciting to see such nice people as Tony & Carrie see their dream of living in Hawaii come true.
Aloha,

...saddle road was interesting. I can't figure why they only pave the middle...anyone?

Carrie and Tony, congrats on the house!
When I was a kid, Saddle Rd was in much worse shape. It would get foggy and spooky kine; we would be told to watch the road for Tutu Pele so we could give her a ride and get good luck but all we'd ever see was goats and the occasional cow. There are some paving and widening projects going on and eventually it's supposed to be a true 2-lane all the way.

The middle of the saddle road was paved by the Army because they wanted to route it away from some of their exercise areas.

Okay We're Back In Arizona (temporarily!) and it's 2:00am and I can't sleep even after the long flight! Here's the URL:

http://www.hawaiiinformation.com/REsearch/IDX/mlsHawaii/IndividualListing.asp?page=1&MLS=170789

It's a cute house and we are bouncing ideas already to make a larger living space in the back...lanai and place to BBQ and maybe a chiminea or fire pit...we'll have to have it sprayed...many spiders but very nice and clean otherwise. Nice street with nice neighbors...near the pool and association center...and we were lucky enough to get a great deal on a car we really needed that's in like new condition with only 10K on it. There are so many nice plants there too - gardenia, plumeria, banana, papaya, coconut, noni (have to learn about that one - 'cause no one seems to be overjoyed by Noni), avocado, tons of red and green ti, pink and red hibiscus, and God knows what all else is there!

We were lucky enough to run into John Dirgo while getting gas on the way to the airport...just like a small town! John Dirgo is such a great guy...very professional and has great patience. It takes a special person to cart some people around he doesn't know to help them get their dream and do it cheerfully! You're in the perfect line of work, John! We consider you a friend for sure. (Oh yeah - John treated us to a relaxing and mouth-numbing Awa at Makuu...interesting...)

Thanks again to Lee & Ana - you guys are the best...we're really blessed to have met you and look forward to seein' ya again in a couple of months. Your Orchidland property is magical pretty and having said that, the hard work on your new home shows everywhere - it's gorgeous! Love to Nicole!

Nancy - we just loved talkin' story with ya! Feel like we've known you a long time already. Your house is great and especially that awesome lanai! That's where I would spend my time for sure!

It will feel strange not to be looking up MLS listings everyday! Guess we've got to kick it into high gear and get this house in Arizona SOLD! Toyota say Tony has a job WHENEVER he gets there...no questions! He's feeling better about that...it's nice for him to feel better about being able to provide for us.

We LOVE the Makuu Market! I think once we get settled, mom will love the catholic church there in Pahoa and then off to the market every week for some of the prettiest veggies in the world! You can honestly spend most of the day at Makuu and enjoy every minute of it...we tried the Ono Grinds by Mr. D's...teryaki steak - YUM. (Was that Howard that gave that recommendation?) Didn't get a chance to check out the Hilo Market but I'm right on that one upon our return!

Thanks for all the support - never met so many people with so much ALOHA to give. Can't wait to be your neighbor!

Love & Light,

Carrie

Carrie and Tony,
I'm so glad this trip was so positive and man, what you guys accomplished takes some people weeks, months even YEARS to do! Way to go! A house, a job and an almost new ride. Mella was right! Sorry we didn't get together but I totally understand and actually had a pretty hectic week myself. My advice before you sell your house in AZ and get REALLY busy, make time for proper good-byes with family and loved ones. A real dinner or lunch or maybe an aloha party (oh, that sounds fun!) and have everybody over that you care about. Like I told Mella and Nancy, proper good-byes are important and make the distance not seem so far. It's late, I'm tired and feeling profound, I guess. Wishing you both the best and looking forward to September!! A hui hou,
Pam...pj

Congratulations Tony and Carrie. It always brings back the memory of our arrival last September when I read the moving adventures of others. Hopefully Cathie and I will be moving into our new house about the time you and Tony are getting back. It won’t be finished but may be far enough along to host a Punaweb party!
Our neighbor where we’re renting is turning wrenches at Toyota. The 4/10’s is good but they have a schedule where you don’t always get 3 days off. This last week he worked the 4/10’s, off one day and back to work yesterday. On the other hand he gets 5 days off in a row once in a while, which is really nice. He and his wife are getting ready to build in HPP.
Welcome to the Ohana

Well Mella, you're on your way to the BI as I type this...hope you have a great stay!

I called Hawaiian Air earlier in the week to change our flight out of Hilo so we didn't have as much time in Honolulu...well I asked her "What time do we leave Hilo?" She told me 1:15pm...we got to the airport at 12:30 or so and found that our flight ARRIVED in Honolulu at 1:15!! The only option we had was to buy ANOTHER ticket at $175 per person (From ALOHA) just to get us to Honolulu so we didn't miss our flight back to Arizona!! I can't tell you how p*$@*d we were! I am gonna write to Hawaiian about it but I just know they won't do a thing.

It's so weird being here in Arizona...I feel like I am having a little bit of culture shock you guys. The monsoons started here while we were gone and it's so hot too. The thought that we have a place to be before too long will carry us through I'm sure.

Thanks for all your good thoughts!

Carrie

P.S. Royall...what's your friend's name? I wonder if Tony could talk with him to get the real scoop. You KNOW they make it sound so good, but he never really did get a wage from Jamie Trujillo, the service manager...said he would email them to Tony. That's the only thing that kinda worries him. Right now he gets every Sunday and only every-other Saturday off. So I guess if he has to work a week here and there more than the three-day-off thing he won't mind.
Mahalo!
