Even so, Oceanic is twice as fast for the same price. I think people should check first if they are available in their area.
(Unless you're boycotting them, of course; I know the feeling, Hawaiian Tel lied to me for a long time)

I called just to see last week. They have not laid cable down my dead end street on 5th. And of course they didn't have a time frame when that might happen. (Same dance I've been getting for 20 years)

rbakker,
I don't understand how it can work either. It's standard definition, not HD, but still. Nevertheless, I tried to push the connection beyond it's limits and couldn't. At one point, I was downloading boxee while streaming Netflix, doing a 1gb+ software update download on my wife's computer, while my daughter was streaming a netflix. I couldn't believe there wasn't even a hiccup. So I starting streaming netflix on an ipad. Took a minute or so to buffer, but it played smoothly. If I read this post, I would think I'm full of it, but that's what happened last night. The installer did rave about their receiver with dual something to match the dual directional antennae. Maybe I'll try streaming a HD rental from iTunes and see what happens. I think I've read that you should have at least twice as fast of a connection as we have to do that. I'm pretty stunned... Cheers, Kirt

macuu222,
I think the billing period starts the first of the month and they don't bother charging prorated. Did they tell you first month was free? Or did you just notice that only the installation was charged? Cheers, Kirt

They said that the tower on Beach is not currently up to specs and is in fact only giving us 1.5 down..although it will be bouncing around to 2.5 down occasionally for another week or 2 until they finish fine tuning it. The installers said something about not charging for the first month because of this. I guess we shall see tomorrow. And yes they bill the first of every month.

Netflix says you need 5Mbps for streaming as well. Maybe you could try another site rather than speedtest?

Solid speed tests here, which are used by techs everywhere:

Update.
Still stunned. Speakeasy is giving me the same results as speedtest. I have checked speed several times over the last days. Always around 2.4 down and .7 up. If a movie is already streaming I will get speeds of 1.7 down, and still .7 up if tested from another computer. FWIW, KIrt |
