Ideas on career

I would suggest if you want to make a change. Don't bother with vet work. It will only sadden and make you sick here.. The vets here are at least ten years behind the times. My partner has been a vet tech for nine years now three here on the island.

Do some research find a business that supplies people with what they need, not what they want. And you will succeed , it may be tuff for awhile but will pay off in the long run.

Having a boarding facility on your property would be great for part time income but won't pay your bills.

The biggest issue people have here is shipping ...
Here is a thought what about a pet moving service where you coordinate flights travel paper work ect for those moving to and from the big island.
I know a couple on some of the other islands.
Would be glad to hook you up with them so you can find out how they got started and would be good contacts for coordinating your move?

That's actually not to bad for a place that I generally (and fondly) consider to be thirty years behind the times.
Assume the best and ask questions.

I was being kind. RobSmile most of you don't know what goes on behind the doors after your animal leaves your sight . I won't go into details or point fingers but I will say at least seven of the vet clinics in puna could and should be shut down. And as much as people will ripp me to shreds on here I won't elaborate but I will say this . If your vet would not be comfortable to allow you to be their every step of the way including surgery. Then you need to find a better vet! I have done alot of rescue work over the years and have worked closely with alot of vets to the extent that I have assisted on multiple bone surgeries and spay and neuters I've raised alot of livestock and have had to assist my vets and I've raised and bred alot of large hook bill parrots such as macaws which opens a whole can of worms trying to find bird vets that know what their doing. Just be responsible with your animals, they are like children to most of us wouldn't you scrutinize your child's doctor get a second opinion check credentials I couldn't expect the average person to go to the extreme that I go to. That's why so many of them are still practicing medicine because they prey upon your trust. They need to earn your trust, which means not being afraid to let you see what's going on in the clinic. Earn your vets trust donate a few hours of your time to your vet to help out. Any vet that won't take you up on that, you want to stay away from.

But not to jump off the topic here
I think their could be some good money in a pet transport business on the island alot of people are confused on how to coordinate flights vets paper work not to mention local pet taxi service to vet and grooming appointments combined with a boarding facility on your property I think you might find yourself just a bit too busySmile
