Tell me, where are the jobs for these young people? I think you live in a world different from the rest of us.

That's the catch.

Those who have healthcare now will pay more to support those who don't.

That is what American citizens do for each other. At least us Democrats feel that way.
Obama 2012
Hillary 2016

Hawaii has long had laws that require employers to provide healthcare insurance !

You would need to have a job to be able to use this healthcare.

I have neighbors who are young and used to be healthy, who don't work and use drugs all day and night.

I have a problem paying for their healthcare when I worked 41 years at the same job,was regularly drug tested and had to undergo an FBI background check !!

Drug tests for all.

I think we should also get rid of the socialized military, the socialized fire and police departments, the socialized public schools, etc!. My house isn't on fire and I have no kids and I don't like war so I shouldn't ever have to pay for any of that! Obamacare is Romneycare. The individual mandate was a Republican idea. Obama scrapped the public option so that you can only get your insurance from a for-profit provider. Nobody ever said premiums would go down. That can only happen with socialized medicine.

robguz.. you are right on point. Single payer is what most of the country wanted and Obama never even let it come up..The Insurance Industry wrote Obamacare.. and btw Social Security is not a entitlement. We work and pay into it all our lives.. The Government has been
borrowing/stealing it to fund Wars for decades.. Obama/Romney they are just Corporate controlled stooges, put there so some people think their vote makes a difference, Its been that way a LONG time..

The bill I've seen for ER services here has been about 2K. No doubt some are more or less, but it's an amount that would hit most people hard who work enough not to get free care but not enough to get insurance, or the self-employed who don't make that much. It's a horrible system that ruins people all the time and is a disincentive for people who get benefits to try to work part time.

Earlier in this decade I took a trip to Ireland (on frequent flyer miles, low budget), and I forgot to buy travel insurance. Had a serious problem that developed out of a blister from too much hiking ... the sort of thing that's easy to get. Had to go to ER, had a life-threatening issue.

Of course I am freaking out thinking of this 2K or god knows what bill I'll get, as I'm not a citizen or resident of this country and my U.S. insurance won't cover me. I envision financial ruin. [Sad]

I was handed a $90 bill for services. That was it. I went to a "chemist" and with no prescription insurance, I got my meds for 6-7 bucks. I pay more than that every month here just to have coverage and the right to get by with a co-pay that is almost as much as the full cost was there.

While Ireland has plenty of problems and I'm not holding it up as a perfect model, that was a revelation to me that health care for everyone could be that affordable.

Its not that affordable, refer to the beginning of your sentence.
Keep an eye on Europe in general with their glorious socialism, complete with free healthcare. They will be beating us to ruin and taking us down with them, the Fed has already promised to bail them out.

I receive a Social Security check each month...out of that check medicare A and B are deducted 101$.. Then the least expensive supplemental plan i could get has gone up to over 400$ a month. So i am paying over 500$ a month to receive medical coverage that
a lot of physicians will not except.. When i first entered the Work force I paid less than 9$ a month for full blue cross-blue shield.. I am aware of inflation and the devaluation of the dollar. I think most people who have traveled the world..especially the Western and European Nations understand that we are being told we have the greatest while in reality we are getting hosed.. just sayin

We are being hosed. Not only by the inflation that you mention, which is very dramatic and accounts for most of the price increases. We are also being hosed by a government that is in bed with the corporations. They write the rules and regulations to suit themselves. They can run any kinda sour business they want, because the government will bail them out when it goes bad. Privatized gains and socialized losses, on top of a dishonest monetary policy makes for one of the worst situations we could be in. The solution does not lie in giving them more power or money. Europe is even worse off then we are, just wait for it.

why are some people trying to confuse the issue by saying "free"? if we give everyone healthcare and tax everyone then it's not free as some keep screaming, just to distract. even so called socialized europe it's the people who pay for it, so it's not free. i don't know how the right wingers have convinced alot of people that health care is a bad thing, but paying for made up wars is patriotic, lol.
