Investigations going on with reported sexual transmission of Zika virus and Zika can be carried by common mosquito. A town in Brazil has released GMO mosquitoes, and some towns are trying mosquito fogging the whole town. It will take a few weeks to see what the outcome is.

This sounds almost "proactive", which is mildly encouraging.

This article is scary - not because of its claim (for which it offers no evidence, or even speculative reasoning) but for how quickly many commentators accept it as proven truth that fits oh-so-nicely into their world view. Snopes has a good break down - apparently Reddit's conspiracy theory section is now a journalistic source?

This is just great, now the anti-science know-nothings are blaming the mosquito-borne diseases on the very technology that could eradicate them.

It's the very basic error of mistaking concurrence for cause.

Is there any way we can GM engineer mosquitoes to only bite people who are against GM?

Have there been any cases of Microcephaly and the woman was not in Brazil during her pregnancy? I've been looking for that info and haven't found it yet.

That's the truth. I received an email yesterday with 6 links to Zika related hysteria. Here's a sample:

The link between microcephaly and Zika is unproven. The fact that (so far) nobody outside Brazil has had the former is actually an indication that they may not be linked at all.

I just posted this on the zika thread...

1/3 less cases?

I think any politician that has not stepped forward and taken an aggressive stance in support of getting rid of Dengue should be voted out of office.

Kenoi is term-limited. Irony?
