Potential restrictions to Mauna Kea access
Faced with pragmatic reality, enter melodramatic malarkey.

I honestly do not understand the serious notion being presented that young Hawaiians have no future as citizens of the USA. I cannot help but wonder what sort of propaganda is being fed to these young people in the ethnic Hawaiian schools the state runs. Fantasies about a carefully cherry-picked ethnic past and a foiled existence in an imaginary geopolitical reality that never existed are not a foundation for the future of a people. Human history is ugly. There exists not one civilization on this earth, including Hawaiian, that is not rife with cruelty, inhumanity, stupidity, greed, unfairness, you name it. To say you want to throw away the only political system that gives people a shred of freedom for a fantasy, because the fantasy is perfect and the present is not, is delusional. To base public policy upon it is insane. Human history is not just about Hawaiians. It is much bigger than that. Hawaiians have the political power now to make these islands into a true paradise built around Hawaiian culture, language and wisdom under the umbrella of America. I believe the majority of people here would welcome that. Instead, the crazies just want to throw it all away and welcome the Chinese or Russian fleet into Pearl Harbor with flowers, whichever gets there first, which is Phase II of any Hawaiian 'independence'. That will not happen, and pursuing it just makes the other very attractive possibility of a Hawaiian cultural renaissance here fade away. If Hawaiians had a clue they would realize that TMT is the stepping stone to a glorious cultural future on the global stage of Hawaiian culture as as a bringer of the mana of sacred knowledge and high art to humanity, and embrace it, not turn down the path that can only be described as one of ignorance, darkness and utter futility.

Apologies for any offense. We all just peacefully express our views here. I will go away for awhile and spare you any more of this. Aloha.

imagtek, I always want to just apologize and leave this discussion as well.

When I do come back it is because I am thinking of this person. A young woman who would like to be able to earn a living doing what she loves in her island home which is uniquely suited for the type of work she wants to do. And she deserves her future as much as any protestor does, so she needs there to be people who take her side. That is what I think about, anyway. That her future should not be taken hostage by a movement that really isn't even about a telescope.

I hope you don't go away for too long, imagtek, that was a particularly cogent rant. In stark contrast to the gibberish gypsy posts, that was a very enjoyable read.

Perhaps it's time someone started a new thread about Hawaiian sovereignty. It's already been established that the TMT is being held hostage, so perhaps now the TMT threads could actually discuss the TMT and discussions about sovereignty could be held in another thread. Or do we just have to accept the TMT remains a hostage?

Mr. Tom, it's already done, Sir:

I know, but it just keeps coming back into the TMT threads. Just a simple conclusion, but it suggests to me it is all about the TMT.

Yes, agreed, Pam. However, her Daddy should not influence her statements (again, no links; search Google, or whatever). She will be one of the chosen few, no doubt, but Daddy will be the driving force.

No disrespect meant.

JMO, again.

I'm not going to let that one go, Opihikao. You made the claim, you provide the evidence or the links. Do not send Pam off on a wild goose chase.

No thanks, Sir. Lots of people here say things with no links. It is what it is, in my opinion. Tired of being accused of too many links, "cute" links, whatever. It's out there, no wild goose chase needed (simple search will do).

Good night, Sir. Pam rest well, it's not worth losing sleep over.

JMO.

Sorry, Opihikao, but if a simple search is all that's needed, why can't you provide a link to the results?
