My flight back from Maui was the most quiet flight I can remember. Very little laughing. Flight attendants tried to lighten the mood without success. There may be some changes on our inter island flights soon, they may stop handing out drinks and snacks, anyone coughing, sneezing while waiting for flights may be asked to wear masks. Only discussions as of now on some proactive measures.

I won’t be flying anymore this month, possibly next month as well. Up to 24 day incubation time, r naught possibly up in the 6 range. No thanks.

I do find it hard to believe that this Coronavirus is weaker than our every year flu that kills thousands.

Why would China be Quarantining millions?
Why would China Close The Gambling capital of the world?
Why would this summers Olympics be in jeoprady and not all the past Olympics?
Why build very large Hospitals in a matter of 10-14 days?
Why start disrupting Cruise ships and implementing travel restrictions at the airports?

I don't remember these preventative measures ever happening before for any flu.

To be somewhat pithy (as your links are rehashing already posted info) - the disease MAY have begun in a lab, or MAY not have - so what? How does that change either the disease progression or your preparations for it?

R0 is not a fixed biological number intrinsic to the pathogen - it depends on environment, treatment, time frame, etc... Obviously the R0 in Wuhan last month is different than the R0 elsewhere now and will keep shifting over time. A week old paper based on data through January doesn't say that the R0 is "now believed to be between 4 and 6" it says what it may have been then and there.

As for not flying when not needed, sounds good - add some regular hand-washing and other social distancing and you might survive this round of armageddon and can pick through the corpses of the sheeple who dared to question the bioweapon theory? Then again, we already know the infected were recently visiting Maui and Oahu and flying while contagious so it's probably too late for you. Figured you'd have known better - sorry for any confusion?

Seems to me that the origin would make a big difference to those trying to come up with a vaccine. To take ironyaks thought process a step further: it's what we don't know not what we know to be the big challenge. How do you prepare for the unknown? Perhaps military strategists would have the best insight?

Sorry I don't have a link but I did read from what I remember to be a credible news source that a top Hong Kong doctor virologist working on the Wuhan virus has determined the virus does not like humidity or sunshine. Hopefully that rules out the BI.

Why? Virus has been sequenced, at least one vaccine candidate already announced. Whether an artisanal mix from mother nature, or a lovingly hand-crafted lab brew, the virus and its effects are what they are.

U.S. Military already has plans for pandemic outbreaks, focused on preserving their functionality. These have been activated recently to address various contingencies.
