Coqui
#31
The frogs are here in Orchidland too. I can hear them as soon as the sun goes down. Until we build on our lot I am temporarily staying on a place that has chickens and they really do the trick. No frogs close to the house but I can hear them in the background. They do sound a lot like crickets when there not right by the window. When I first arrived I stayed at the Dolphin Bay Hotel in Hilo for a few nights, they were everywhere there. Very loud but I kept my windows open and still slept just fine, the sound does fade into the background after a little bit. I heard a yell as a woman found one in the washing machine. I guess frogs just want to get clean too.

Hey Glenn you made it!! Yippee for you. Have you seen the post on the Party thread, you could go to the party in Feb and meet a few of your one day neighbors, or already neighbors. Talk story, building, frogezzz, chickens and such. You'd be welcome and hope to see you there!!

Wonder if ducks will eat them, they sure eat all the slugs here in Oregon, big slimy ones that chickens won't touch.

HAHA Think I've heard that Maui has the same problem and the same large scale.

Link to article. Hope this program helps, as I wouldn't be happy with 20,000 frogs per hectar let alone the triple that figure.

Does the coqui population decrease at higher elevations? IM considering purchasing lot in Royal Hawaiian Estates (about 2900- 3100 elevation) have they reached that area yet? Is there particular temperature or elevation were they don’t thrive?
