Just exactly how someone running away from you is considered a "threat"
This kind of crap is happening all to often and people say, well he was stupid because he opted not to have his neck put under the jackboots and attempted to walk away. How dare he! I guess they showed him who has authority..

It does seem excessive. I would say though that if you go to an RC flying field you will see that considerable effort is made to separate the spectators from the flight line. Furthermore everyone there knows that there are flying objects. Also flying is only done during daylight. My point is that if the drone pilot did what he did, flying after dark, outside of an approved area, with countless unaware bystanders, in a venue where RC planes are normally flown there would have been great outcry and rightly so. The drone may be small but I shudder to think of the damage the tiny blades could do to someone's eye.
Excessive, yes, but I still don't have a lot of sympathy for the guy.

YW Opihikao. Our neighbors are going through that right now with their 5 year old daughter. Boy was she screaming bloody murder last night too, I think her parents (our neighbors) stepped outside for a break from it because she was screaming from the house out the window at them, we couldn't help but laugh. Oh how I don't miss those days of the high shrieking scream of a ticked off little girl. Worse than a woman scorned IMO.
I bet that little girl put more fear into that Ranger than anything else... bet her words and voice are still rolling around in his head today. LOL.

We lost a park Ranger a few years ago when a homeless man grabbed his gun and shot him over a disagreement about dogs.
Free advice; If a Park Ranger orders you to stop doing something; don't assume he will think it minor enough to let it slid.

From what it sounds like, this was what he was flying or something very similar in size etc.

Apparently this gentleman wasn't dressed appropriately. Soon everyone will have these articles of clothing handy when visiting a National Park or anywhere else where they may be randomly tazed.

Travis Sanders is all over the Internet shooting himself in the foot. On Facebook he admits that he fled after the ranger identified himself. Witnesses report a very confrontational man who attempted to get the crowd on his side. Imagine being a ranger by yourself and here is someone trying to get a mob together. This is eyewitness testimony and Travis Sanders' own self incriminating comments. He's obviously not the brightest bulb or he'd keep quiet but it's very interesting to watch. His story makes absolutely no sense and conflicts with numerous witnesses.
there's an unprecedented number of visitors in the park right now. People need to have respect and cooperate for the good of all. This young man now faces a possible five year sentence in a Federal prison. I doubt he will get off without a hefty fine which according to him he can't afford. Just silly.

Everything's fine here.
Nothing to see here. Move along. These aren't the droids you're looking for. I don't think anyone is defending the fool # 1's actions. Of course he shouldn't have been doing that and of course he should have listened to the LEO. What's not so clear is if the use of a taser is justifiable in this situation. Something tells me turning and fleeing is a far cry from "trying to get a mob together". The apologists on here amaze me time and again - on every topic discussed! I'm just waiting for someone to come and make a case for the LFA maybe a PITA member or something... It is past reasonable to taser someone in that situation, I know it, many onlookers reported as much to HawaiiNewsNow and I'm willing to wager the judge will know that as well. As the the parks spokesperson well her background is from a hote in Kona to park spokesman...something tells me her understanding of the appropriate use of force ... i.e. a taser on a harmless retreating individual ... Isn't exactly reliable, but understandably she's toeing the line and supporting the individual in question (the LEO). The circumstances are currently under investigation and I'm sure when their review of the issue is made public she'll toe the line again regardless of the outcome. I would hope the victim takes the LEO to court - I'd hate to see this kind of violent response become par for course in our society not to mention in our national parks to say the least.

Something tells me turning and fleeing is a far cry from "trying to get a mob together". Yep, Jim / Ted,,,, "whats not clear" + "something tells me" " What(s)omething would that be ??? You guys can sit back and judge, but again, you were not there. (IMO) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 'Something' tells me the Ranger made the right call. |
