Beejee,
Its night now, put one fan in(hale) window that you can flip around ... The other across the room ... One draws cool air in the other moves it around and across you .. Will have cooling effect greater than both of them blowing warm air across your body ...

beejee - no longer, I hardly ever get to go to the summit these days. We observe remotely from Hilo. But do wonder how people here can do manual labor during the day. My Celtic genes tell me to shutdown if the temperature goes above 70. Anything above 85 degrees usually results in operational errors. 90 and above requires I get sent off for repairs.
Unfortunately I am no longer under warranty.

I'm with you Tom, I also have those northern genes. Sorry you can't spend more time on the summit. I suspect it's a mixed blessing.

Some winds picking up this afternoon, hope they stick around. Also quite a bit of storm activity out west. Tropical storm Nora is on the way, tracking south of Big Island.

Very unusual extreme thunderstorm activity just rolled through upper Volcano area. Truly torrential extended ultra downpour, hail, several ungodly lightning blasts within immediate vicinity, one of which flipped half the breakers in the box.
Imagine there are some hazardous road conditions roundabouts.

It was rock'n and rolling in Hilo all afternoon and has been booming in HPP since we got home about 5, seemed like it had been going on for hours here judging from the level of dog hysteria. Incredible horizontal lightening flashes that look like they go from the ocean to Keaau just light up all at once.
The commute home in blinding rain and enough water pooling on the road to make my rig hydroplane if it was in the righthand lane was way too exciting. Entirely too many people don't believe in using their headlights when conditions warrant it.

Wow PM2 and SWR, sounds incredible and scary at the same time. Thanks for the reports. I've been hearing similar from a friend in HPP. Hang in there, put the golf clubs away!

Last flash was eleven miles away using the count method to estimate. The booms are getting farther away and farther apart. Seems like it must be wild in Panaewa right now.

lightning around Hilo is flashing every 5 seconds or so on average for the last hour... mostly from the North and NEast.

Turns out a few wires and a lightbulb got zapped in the biggest lightning blast earlier (zero detectable time between blue-white flash and ear-ringing boom). Thunder has been distant for awhile now. But plenty of flashes lighting up the horizons. Rain steadily picking up again.
