I've learned to ignore the Trolls over the years on many websites. I don't answer them and regard them as unhappy grouches with a hobby (trolling). But if you take the bait you're doing exactly what they want - giving them attention - it's a waste of our time. Is it possible to just get rid of them (ban them) with a mouse click? I've never been a moderator so I don't know. Aloha.

sistersue has it exactly right. I enjoy the community discussions on PW and especially the sharing of life with aloha. I just ignore postings that get caustic; honestly I just don't bother to read any further if someone says something off-color. A bully is only bully on the web if you give them your permission. Just ignoring them puts them in their place. Probably pisses 'em off too[

Brian, the real trollers just post a controversial subject to start the war, but they don't post again and they don't even check back to see what's happening. They know. [

You guys are spot on with this. Some other forums I frequent inlcuding PunaOnline have an ignore feature so you never have to be bothered by the trolls or even be tempted to take the bait. It's a beautiful thing and these people tend to just fade away. [

It may be time to re-read some of this.
One thing that occurs and may not fit the definition of trolling is approaching communication as a win/lose proposition. For you to be right someone else has to be wrong. That isn't communication that is verbal battle.
Being able to make your point without insisting that only you are correct is a way to share and learn at the same time. I encourage this.
I also discovered along this PW path that a community forum need not be a mental health facility. I have, and now with the Operating Committee, tried to maintain the community forum as a community forum. I understand that it is not possible to keep everyone happy all the time.... so I don't try.
Punaweb has grown a lot and with numbers comes the potential for friction. We should try to communicate with each other without antagonizing or allowing ourselves be antagonized. The best advice regarding trolling is: Please don't feed the trolls.
Best wishes.
