So let's assume Hawai'i becomes a sovereign "nation". How will it defend itself if another nation decides to occupy the islands?

a sovereign nation could still lease the naval base to the u.s., obviously, we have bases all over the world, as far as the chinese go that would be the last thing i would worry about, they still haven't reclaimed taiwan after all these decades

you might want to talk to someone in Taiwan.... they live in daily fear. You want to turn the rest of America off to Hawaii, that would be the way to do it.. Right now they don't know about any movement to become a non-democratic "Kingdom" or some such. But again, I don't see it happening, to many people like me here now and more moving in everyday. Montenegro is a sovereign country as diverse in ethnicity and even smaller in population/territory than Hawaii...calls for Hawaiian independence would seem to have just as much claim and viability as they do.... an interesting read if you get a chance "A Hawaiian Kingdom" by Dudley...
China keeps moving Chinese into Tibet as an argument against Tibetan independence as well...it's an ancient technique... Hawaiians have to stop participating in and contributing to a system that has left them in last place in just about every social statistic...life expectancy,incarceration,income....etc... There gotta be something better than the current way ..where Hawaiians are last place in the race...

Back in Michigan, the Amish live the way they want to. Without electricity, without cars. They speak their own language among themselves. They wear the clothes they want to. They have their own ethics, morals, and laws. They never call the cops on themselves. They do this without any whining or wanting special laws.
The Hutterites in Canada live together in colonies. They have their own language. They don't talk to outsiders. They have their own religion. They all wear the same clothes. They work hard, they are very successful. They want no special laws. They don't whine about what other people do. Anybody living in Hawaii can live the way they want, they just have to go do it. Give up cars, give up welfare, give up health care, grow your own food, live near like minded people. Anybody can do this. Anybody. No extra laws needed. No special privileges needed. Sorry about the rant, this has been bothering me for some time.
