My notes from Fred Blas' Talk Story
#31
"rant"?

Rob asked a question and I answered it.
On the other hand, maybe your second point is valid:
answering questions certainly did not serve me (or Barbara) well in the Primary and not answering questions clearly served Fred and Emily quite well.

James, you make me miss you more and more every day. (Seriously, you and Elizabeth need to come over sometime soon, RM and I really do miss you!)

Rob: you have done a service to Puna providing notes as to Blas's positions. Clearly, he is more qualified than Emily and should be elected. That said, I am and will remain frustrated by your cheerleading. Your unflagging support of Fred Blas is practically annoying, given the overwhelming evidence provided here and elsewhere that he has made several grevious and as yet unrepentant errors in his dealings with the people of HPP and Puna. Admittedly, he has also had his moments of success, and that is indeed a sign of a "doer" ... but it would be refreshing if the doer could admit to an obvious error, and it would be equally refreshing, if you, as his primary advocate here in this forum, would agree that a Councilman Blas, while perhaps the best thing Puna can hope for at this juncture, is at best a creature that bears watching carefully, and opposing vehemently if he falls back on bad habits that follow from too much of a "doer" mentality.

* Civil Unions: Fred supports marriage between a man and a woman and also supports civil unions.
WOULD HE SUPPORT SAME-SEX CIVIL-UNION PARTNERS OF COUNTY EMPLOYEES HAVING EQUAL BENEFITS AS THOSE OF HETEROSEXUAL COUPLE

ME: And so you have hit the nail on the head! As this would be a state legislative or voter initiative he would only be able to answer your question.

* Water: We need water. Fire hydrants to serve the subdivisions. Depending on volunteers fire trucks to haul water to fires is not sufficient.
AS DESIRED BY COMMUNITIES AND INDIVIDUAL PROPERTY OWNERS.
WE MUST NOT MANDATE ANYONE TO CONNECT TO THE WATER MAIN.

ME: Exactly! But more to the point, how exactly does he propose to provide it for those who do want it? Who will pay?

I know, I know, if I wanted the answers I should have been at the talk story. That's okay. I figure he is a little like Pelosi's Obamacare...we just have to vote for him and when we get him we will get to see the surprise. Only 12 days and it is all over! Like Rob said elsewhere...using his analogy of tires salesperson and his service...we can wait and see what happens when the rubber hits the road! Hoping for great gripping during inclement weather and balance through the wear and tear of his 2 years...

ME: The way I understand Rob's efforts is from a practical point. I think he is doing what he can to help folks who have had questions. I also see someone who honestly would like to see District 5 be represented with a broader acceptance than is currently the case. Rob clearly has no problem helping people by sharing his convictions and those convictions are well articulated. I think what is confounding is the decibel level and perhaps that is a cumulative sense of frustration from the past few years. I believe most of us are finally emerging from the first few phases of grief and realizing life must go on. But, James is still here with us...which is wonderful...and well...if things go bust with whomever is elected we have two years to build back up for the vote and it will be a presidential election year then! In the meantime, I hope to stay as connected as I can...as informed as I can.
