Big Island Toyota

ishkabibble, i totally agree with you. i drove toyotas for years until i had to deal with BIT. there is no such thing there as loyalty to their customers. the service clerk was probably chuckling to herself. she could have asked you if you checked the spare. this is what a reputable dealer would have done. many many times the service clerk at honda or suburu which i now own would tell me "sounds like...." saving me alot of money. if you think the service is bad... talk to them about buying a car... ouch!!!![Sad!]

Last week on my mom's toyota, we couldnt find the *button* to release the shifter from park to neutral so we could roll it out of driveway and get it to where I (haha okay my SO) could jump start it for her.

Called BIT service. They said "we have no idea what you are talking about", and further said "if the car is dead you have to jump start it".... DUH!! Thats why we need to move it!! I definitely felt like ishkabibble's experience.... and need to find longer battery charger cables!

hmmmm.... so I called back and asked for Tony at BIT who is the best mechanic there and he was out of the shop... so I thought what would Tony tell me? .... GET OUT OWNER's MANUAL.... lol... and there it was! And thank you Obie for helping us to get it out of the driveway.

I did call back service center and said Just FYI the button is under a little tiny plastic plate next to shifter. (my mom just has a basic 10 yr old camry.) The service clerk did not seem very interested - she was more about why are you bothering me?

ishkabibble, if you told them to call you with an estimate and they went ahead and fixed it anyway, you might have a legitimate beef. But if you complain, they'll probably say that the $29.11 was for troubleshooting and that they filled the tire for free once they saw what the problem was. And they probably are due something for their effort to help pay for overhead, labor, etc. If you were a regular customer, they may have waived the charge, but that's their call. So yeah, you're right to be a tad steamed/chagrined about paying $29 for such a minimal service, but I figure anytime you can come out of a dealership's repair shop for less than $50, you did well...

Or BIT could just be following the "burn and churn" model of (non) service ........... buyer beware

Thanks spanky for your input. I know my spelling is not the best. Something to work on. I'm sure that their are some thing that you are not the best at. Not to get you down eithr, Just saying. I did do what you suggest. I would hope a company would not discard a complaint and not take me seriously because of bad spelling. Oh, and my typing stinks to.

Thanks everyone for your input. Not being car smart is my own demon. To bad Toyota lost a customer over $29.11. Like Iquade said. They could have ask if I check the spare. That would have been customer service. KeaauRich, As many times I took the truck back to BIT to get the recall fix I was a regular customer, just one they did'nt like. Could it be because I didn't buy the truck at BIT?

Iquade, service clerk ask then the last time I had service. I said a oil change at Lex Brodie in Pahoa in Feb, which the light was not on at that time. She said the the mechanic did not reset the sensor. Is their a connection between the too?

Looks like the BBB gives BIT an A+ on their report card...

Ish - yes those are my soaps, thanks for your kind words.

Spanky - All Hawaii dealerships are independent and have next to nothing to do with TOYOTA per se. They are owned by SERVCO.
