Volcano acting up
Go figure. Make a prediction and be the fool I am to second guess Pele. Big Change today at the eruption site! Visit HVO website for the latest!

Not insensitive! I have a home in the potential path of the flow, as does anyone who lives in Puna.

How quickly things change. At 10;20 PM the webcam still showed quite a river of lava, apparently headed south in the direction of Royal Gardens.

I haven't been able to pull up the usgs links since early yesterday. Have the links changed? Anyone have a link that works?

I am still in Texas. Mom has declared a cease-fire since it froze last night and the snakes have surrendered the patio, retreating to their caves. The cowboys, however, are getting good and liquored up for the holiday weekend.

Anyway, this business with the eruption coming straight out the vent is interesting. If it keeps going south, that would be good for most of Puna, except the remnant residents of Royal Gardens, who have been warned to remain vigilant. How many people still live in Royal Gardens? I am aware of one guy who actually has a B&B of some sort.

Cheers,
Jerry

Nope, links still don't work. I even dumped temp internet files. Other non HVO usgs sites work, but not the eruption links.

There's supposadely only permanent resident in RG and they're buzzing him with helicopters today to warn him and any campers, squatters etc.
But just because she has retreated and is going the ways of RG means nothing. The whole east end can have fingers meander to the sea at 20 points if she pleases. I wonder how many people rushing to get into Puna while the land is "cheap" did any research into the history. Made several trips and get to understand that if you buy in the path, don't snivvel later. You want to live right next to the last flow, complain to no one when pele does her work and follows the previous flows, makes new one and ends them in a 20 ft high space vertical sculpture.
I've seen awsome formations out there that are all temporary. Like Leilani, Pohiki, Kahopo all the way to Makuu market.

Hello people, geothermal plant? cave you say tube. I wonder when people drive through Pahoa, if they realize that the "hill" by the Texico Station is a lava tube. Quiet for the moment. Our whole topogrphy is litterally a sponge. Every where you walk, was and can be again like Kalapana. Pukas everywhere. In my yard there are ancient tubes and vents. I've a cave you can crawl in, You think I haven't contimplated the fact that at any point in time they can light up?

There is an emergency" SORT?", team that has a group of volunteers who gather at the gym in Keaau like during a hurricane warning.
They have some, the state, the feds will be late and your best hope is the network of friends you have. people who will do things for you not for money, but for that of you are more important to them than money. I have friends who have done for me, for free, things that could cost thousands. but we give and recieve.
When Pele comes have your plan, do you have a plan? i have a plan or 2-3.
Happy Gluttony Day!

No need for "I told you so's". I do believe that most people who bought here are very aware of the potential for inundation. Real estate is relatively inexpensive. Why? Everyone learns the answer to that question pretty quickly. So, no need to berate people who have made this choice, anymore than we scold people for living on the banks of the Mississippi, or in the Marina District in San Francisco (built on slush over a major fault line).

So, remain calm (leave the hysteria to me) and no preaching to Punatics, please! We chose to live here. If you feel like you must scold people for making this choice, at least proofread before you berate.

Personally, I think this is kind of like a thrashing garden hose. Anything can happen. I think this is the beginning of a major eruption. Right now they are waiting to see if the Easterly tubes have been deprived of lava. But the back and forth (From channel, back to Fissure D), tells me that we have a live one on our hands...and possibly a Fissure E, F, and G down the line.

Now that's how you do hysteria.

At least the current information is good to hear. The red stuff is moving southeast and down the hill it goes. The current reports and flows are much better news then in August and September.
I think as the lava falls bellow the 1600’ mark in elevation the geography is more steep and pulling the lava in this new direction. (Path of least resistance) I know lava isn’t viscous like water but headin’ down the hill can’t hurt.
I just wish they would update the map it's been a week.....
