rainyjim - test kit ... I guess positive controls, but yeah other than that it’s just primers. Not sure how you could mess that up
Yeah I hadn't really looked at the kit till you mentioned outsourcing it. Like you said, seems pretty straight forward although apparently they are having problems with the reliability with some of the reagents.

Schatz is also calling for using kits from Japan (if they meet the CDC's standards, which I'm guessing they lack the free time to test those kits and get the FDA's emergency approval on them, so maybe just a talking point as well?)

Thanks for the flying tips. I noticed this bit:
"Really, Hertzberg says, the risk of getting a respiratory infection from a plane is low. "There are very few reports of infectious disease being transmitted on airplanes," she says."
I'll be washing my hands more often on my upcoming flight but I won't be laboriously wiping down the seat and tray table as I saw one person doing on a recent flight!

By Big Island Now...this afternoon
"There are four people on the Big Island currently self-monitoring for potential signs of COVID-19, a state Department of Health press release said Friday.
This is the first time since it began releasing daily updates on the status of coronavirus in Hawai‘i that the state has mentioned a potential presence on the Big Island. However, as of Friday afternoon, there remained no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Hawaiian Island"
(we sure could use some test kits )

Hard to confirm it if you can't test for it! But maybe that's by design.

Why not wipe down the area you'll be confined to for 5+ hours? Pride goeth before destruction.

"Hearing of possible cases here on the big island might make people irrational."
Classic case of
1) gibberish
2) self-fulfilling prophesy
3) huh?
On the other hand, if covid-19 is detected here (after we get the kits) then we might see a lot of irrational behavior so definitely agree with kander on that one.

Oh, I'll see your nypost and raise you a 4chan. Go big or go home (and stay indoors, for several weeks)

Italy & Iran both quarantining multiple cities, South Korea numbers are doubling each day, Japan's cases can't be traced and the government there is now calling for many to stay at home.

As South Korea and Japan are both at a level 2 CDC travel notices, it's hard to imagine how the virus is not loose in the Hawaiian islands at this point.
