Mauna Kea summit and Mana road ride
#41
Once, about 20+ years ago, a bunch of us went up Mana Rd from Humu'ula side, 3 vehicles in convoy.
The lead vehicle was going a bit too fast when a cow ran in front of the lead vehicle, which hit the brakes to avoid hitting the cow. The second vehicle rear ended the first, smashing the front grill & radiator into the engine fan on a 1970 Ford Bronco which my buddy had just finished restoring. He was following too closely!

What to do?

We ended up removing the radiator and pulling the grill out as best we could, but we had no water, only beer, so my buddy filled the engine manifold with beer, fashioned a connector out of an empty beer can, and joined the intake and outlet cooling hoses together in a closed loop, clamped the hoses down, and drove his Bronco all the way back home to Pana'ewa without further incident.

He ended up having to put another engine in the Bronco as when he tried to start the motor the next day it was totally seized up.

Another of those experiences which I'll always look back on with a chuckle!
