I'm thinking pv/powergrid hybrid system with a generator backup. Hopefully the company jetbuild can get the job done. If helco wants extra money to run the extra power wire fine. Satellite for internet sucks but it will have to do. Living in HA isn't going to be easy in the beginning but it's an adventure a New way of life

You'll probably reconsider when you find out how much this will cost.

HELCO's latest posture is: full grid-tie treatment (surveys, engineering, permits) if you have both grid and PV, even if the PV is fully standalone. I think it's something like $10-15K, in addition to the SSPP, installation, the actual PV hardware, etc. This could easily cost more than the lot itself...

Thank you for all the information guys, I will look into that. Standalone PV might be the best way to go but all options are certainly on the table and I have always believed the lot price is so cheap because of all the upgrades needed

I chose HA because a friend clued me in, saying that there were a lot of veterans in the neighborhood. That & dope growers...
I liked the old wild west atmosphere, but that's died down quite a bit in the past 20 years...

One buddy of mine had a firing range right on 8 Rd, but new neighbors moved in, and they were stealing from him so he threatened them, they began calling the police every time he started shooting...
At first the police were sympathetic and agreed that his range was properly setup, with multiple backstops, stands of large trees, etc, but somewhere along the way they started telling him that he couldn't shoot anymore because there were too many houses in the area.

As for electricity, solar is the way to go. Screw HELCO tie in. I love it when the grid goes down and my place is one of the few on our road without service interruption...
