We rented a car from Budget...we didn't want any other agency other than Enterprise because enterprise really is the cheapest. But you know we just have to get life going...

We just got home with the rental and are about to run out again. Maybe tomorrow we'll finally get to seeing some homes.

I'm very shy in person, those of you who I talked to on the phone may notice that...so I didn't want to call anybody on the 4th of july and interrupt family gatherings etc...so I'll email people back soon. Just letting you all know we're okay. We're leaving this house and probably going to the Dolphin bay.

Good going Maggie, get out before you guys get hurt or worse. Money is only as good as far as it gets you while you can use it. That little amount will not set you back to much. We went through quite a bit before we got all settled in after we moved here(lots of little accidents that tried to take there toll on us). We have been here six years now but the first month was a total nightmare. We eventually started figuring things out. Eventually you will start to get things figured out too, just do a lot of reading on here and it will give you a heads up. I wish we had known about punaweb when we moved, you at least have a good network here to figure things out with. Best wishes, take care.

Hi guys, my name is Christian and I'm the other adult involved in this whole thing. I have been reading the posts and want to thank everyone for showing concern. Maggie and I knew a little bit about the meth situation here, we just didn't expect to run into so many related issues right off the plane.

Moving has always been fairly stressful and this time is no exception. Oh man, I remember when we left Texas for LA...okay, she won't let me tell the story, but this time it's not funny.

Also - my husband and I drive from Hawaiian Shores outside Pahoa every Monday through Friday to work (we both work in Hilo) and have a small Suzuki Areo - we get 26 to 30 MPG and it costs us about $180 per month. Just so ya know.

There is a period of testing that we heard about before we moved here - it's real, for certain. Ours' didn't include ice or druggies, however. I have not had the pleasure of having to be in their company here aside from the casual grocery store line.

(This does not include weed smokers, who I also believe are in a different class than the harder junk. Just a personal observation.)

I can't say I would be as brave as you all are, staying in a horrible place like you've described (e.g., "airplane glue smell") in your posts (not to mention the state of the bathroom, which I have a personal phobia for). I would have been outta there like crazy the first day!!![:0][xx(]

After this great day I have decided I know what house I will be renting. I might stay elsewhere until it's ready but it's a really beautiful home in Ainaloa!

Maggie, glad you found a place, but please be aware that Ainaloa is one of those subdivisions that is now gentrifying but has been a hotbed of problems in the past. I'm not sure how to put this without sounding like I think all welfare recipients are trouble. I actually do not. But some households on welfare have problems, and the subdivisions with relatively small lots like Ainaloa and Hawaiian Beaches used to and perhaps still do work well for welfare recipients.

When I listen to the news and some crime has happened or domestic abuse, very often Ainaloa is named in the mix. I personally would not live there, but I have a shorter list of OK Puna subdivisions than many folks here.

Remember, there's always a reason something nice is affordable, and in Puna that reason is often Location Location Location.
