Hurray for Obamacare! Vast improvement!

Rob, it could be argued that the Constitution of our country protects the right to my own life and property and the Liberty to do with it as I will. Don't think it will be so simple to forcefully violate that Liberty. A lot of people still believe that they have a right to their own life. Especially in Hawaii. [Smile]

Most people who want the freedom and liberty to make their own health care decisions (by not having insurance or a savings account) are only too happy to walk into a hospital when they need urgent care. Even if they know they can't pay for it, because they know the hospital won't turn them away.

I wonder how many self-insured people just say to themselves, "well, I have no money or insurance, so I guess I can't expect the hospital to fix my broken leg or treat my chronic incapacitating stomach distress?" Have you ever seen the line at the emergency room in Hilo Hospital? From the looks of it, I would guess real self insured treatment doesn't happen very often.

Then the rest of us have the 'freedom and liberty' to pay their medical bills.

Eliminates problems.
Might even help us get and keep doctors in Hawaii

I kept waiting for a thorough dissection by our leadership of what was causing the insurance rates/medical costs to climb on such a steep grade even with all the things companies were doing to lighten their load by throwing people overboard.

I somehow missed that part.

There is a little more to it than the uninsured using the system being the culprits. Handy target yes and a part of the problem yes, but I doubt that is what has really powered these rapidly climbing rates which have held too steady of a course up.

I cannot trust our government the way it is presently, and has been, not accountable for making sound stable policy that works best for us the citizens. Single payer would be pretty cool if there were accountability, transparency, and honesty at every level of our system. I am just not seeing it. Those are not political items. They are moral. We demand morality in our medicine but not the government that would be primary monetary banker/enforcer for the system using our money. It wont work without an absolutely morally trustworthy government.

Whichever political party is in power, a morally trustworthy government will never happen!

Judicial Watch Statement on Supreme Court Obamacare Decision

Excerpt: "(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton issued the following statement today regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare:

This Supreme Court majority rewrote Obamacare and then upheld its constitutionality. This decision is monstrous and upends the constitutional limits on federal power. That the Chief Justice would join the Court’s liberal block to legislate from the bench is shocking. Instead of calling the law Obamacare, we can fairly call it “Robertscare.”

Justice Kagan’s controversial decision to participate in this case despite unanswered questions about her role in defending Obamacare while working in the Obama administration also taints the High Court’s decision.

Judicial Watch is a self described conservative government watchdog group.

Go to Snopes to see how accurate their claims are (not very accurate).
Just one example, their claim that Nancy Pelosi "ordered a Big Fat 200 seat jet that could get her back to California without stopping!"
(from a Judicial Watch email)

This American Life did a pair of shows that partially dissected some of the reasons. Basically, it's every part of the system, from the insurance companies to doctors and hospitals to patients.

A big part of the problem is that there is no set cost for anything - it's all based on negotiations between insurers and providers. Every insurer pays a different amount, and if you're paying cash, sometimes you'll pay less because the provider doesn't have to go through a middleman, and sometimes you'll pay far more because you don't get a "discount". Nothing about our healthcare system makes any sense.

I'll say this again, and again, and again...

We have an insurance system, not a "healthcare" system.
