Helicopter Offshore Petition
#51
kept the Volcano area from being overrun by development

I've always wondered why Volcano residents are happy to drive to Hilo for everything.

Aloha Glinda,

Mahalo for the correction and support! I knew Patsy Mink personally. We didn't talk about helicopter noise when she was alive but I know she would be appalled that this situation has not been corrected.

She tried to help but her bill never made it out of committee.
Summary;
https://www.congress.gov/bill/103rd-cong...-bill/1696

Not very far down is her testimony which really illustrates what a long term problem this has been- this is a big document;

Check it out it's fascinating reading!

It's in keeping with their community vision to pay 20 cents a gallon more for gas, and a loaf of bread which costs $8.00. If it were cheaper, they'd get four million tourists a year at the park instead of just 3 million.

more important metric like health

I like Volcano. I'd even consider moving there someday.
But I'd never say I wanted to live there for my health or the peace and quiet.

If you feel better about a heli tour operation closing down, congratulations. But it's a small victory compared to the millions of tourists who continue to drive there every year. As far as health is concerned, there are a lot of places on the island with less SO2 and other particulates in the air.

But like I said, I like Volcano, the golf course subdivision is sunny in the winter months, and this time of year the cooler weather is welcome.

the Volcano community recognizes that nobody moved there to be close to a supermarket

How nice that they can afford that choice while having a larger impact on the environment shared by the rest of us.

Safe bet they'll get an alternate route (which "everyone" will help pay for) before the "studies" are done on PMAR.

I don't know why anyone would want to move to Hawaii and then go live somewhere cold, but good luck to them.
They'll need it with a volcano next door.

All those complaining about helicopter noise, now you know who to thank, the NIMBYs in Volcano.

Apart from a feeble attempt to insult me, glindakine does not answer my soundbite claim that, indeed, Volcano has pushed its helicopter noise onto Puna.
The smugness radiates from up on high. I'm glad you're getting some of it back from Kona. Isn't that what they call karma? I wouldn't know, I'm so uneducated.

What a wonderful soundbite. Interestingly it only goes to prove how silly, uneducated, and insincere its author is.

Volcano, especially parts of the outlining community, is impacted by helicopter traffic just as much as the areas that lie in the flight path between Hilo and the eruption site. But rather than from flights originating out of Hilo it is those that come over the saddle from South Kohala that are the source of the noise pollution in the area.

And yes members of the community have tried dialog with the tour operators, and no they have not been sympathetic. They did a lot of listening and made assurances that the community's concerns would be taken into consideration, though in the end they did nothing of the sort.

But hey, listen to Paul's soundbites, they are as rich as the Don's. Maybe Paul should tweet!

glinda - you sure are a class act...name calling, belittling and lack of tolerance for others are your strong points, I suppose. [Sad]

"People want to see the island from the air, not a bus."

Many responses to this. It seems that there is a perception that ALL of the tourists would be shuttled to the new helipad. From where? From KOA or ITO? How did they get there? Obviously they didn't walk to either of these locations from their hotel. I'm sure there would be some shuttling, for an extra charge of course, but I think most of them would simply drive their rent-a-car to the new location, sight-seeing along the way.
