ATA Airlines Bankrupt too. NO FLIGHTS
#51
Three Make that FOUR airlines: Aloha, ATA, Skybus and now Champion Air.... and it looks like American is getting cold feet and has quit hiring people.

American Airlines put a freeze on hiring management and support staffers this week as the nation's largest carrier grapples with high fuel costs and a slowing economy.........

Champion Air Inc. said it would stop flying on May 31

The key again, is getting a lender to fund the lease(s). Other than sales to China the market for airliners is looking pretty grim in the months ahead...

Aren't there plenty of white tips sitting out in the desert? It seems like HA could have their pick of the ones they need.

lets try this again,

Most of the airliners parked in the dessert are there for salvage the current economic life over. They are usually just
" run out" airframes and are no longer contenders in this economic climate due the repair and overhauls required to return them to service. Most of them cant compete because the earlier generation of jets were based on fuel of 11 cents a gallon or so

the "good" used aircraft can carry a price tag anywhere from about 25 - 100 million or so. the issue today is the airlines, just like home buyers, cant find anyone to lend on these assets so they can be put into service.

The cream of the used airliner market is quietly going to china, along with our cash and corporations.

Bullwinkle, I just thought of something really funny (okay to me...). Those white tips would make dandy Puna homes. If a container is becoming popular what about a plane?? Already has a lua and kitchen! ha ha

(... sorry to derail thread... now back to your regular programing...)

I lived in a sailboat for many years ... 40 feet long by 12 feet wide. Other than living (berthing) where my office was .... I loved it ...
usable interior of 10x30 2 bathrooms and showers a small galley and room for three sets of sails, food and spares
really saved on furniture over the years! At a gallon per hour when the wind was not right, under sail when it was, we would go about making some miles on the off seasons

but nothing moves to windward better than a boeing!
