Vaccine Rollout - State starts out with an 'F' but much improved, Big Island gets B+
#51
I just got an email and was able to register for the Vaccine. Appointments are going fast. If you are over 70 check your email for something from the CDC. Mine was in my spam folder.

They sent a lot of those emails out today. One of the folks I helped sign up got it and doesn't turn 70 until mid-April. He called the HMC hotline, and they told him he would be turned away if he shows up before his 70th birthday. The lady told him that they weren't yet scheduling shots for April, but she would talk to her supervisor to see why he got the email and what he should do. He's been waiting for a callback now over an hour now, and I'll be interested to hear what they say.

If you are over 70 check your email ...

And if you plan to schedule an appointment, check the weather forecast on available days.  With 4 feet of rain expected over the next week, you may not want to drive anywhere on a flash flood day if it’s avoidable.

Thanks, Obie. He emailed on his own when he didn't hear back for three hours.

So far, I've not been inclined to seriously consider getting vaccinated against the Covid bug.
I've relied on my usual, time proven:  keep away from others strategy.
Its always been the best way.

M'Lady is much more social than I.
She's a knee-jerk East Coast liberal, believes anything and everything she's told by those in power.
She's registering for her  Covid vaccination.

In over 10 years I've only had flu once, when she caught it in one of her social activities and brought it home as a gift for me.
I had my first flu shot ever after that to protect myself from her social needs.
Had another a few months ago to protect against "complicating factors" should I catch Covid.
Will be due for another in a few months.
I expect she will soon be bringing this one home too.

I've begun to seriously look at the Covid vaccine situation as it stands right now.
There are 3 vaccines available, with 2 more in the chute, still at least a short ways off from being made available.
The Pfizer-BioNTech  and the Moderna vaccines are mRNA vaccines.
The Johnson & Johnson is a viral vector type.
of those available now, I'm favoring the BioNTech for myself.
The AstraZeneca [whole virus] and Novavax [Protein subunit] are still in trial not much info available yet, but some speculation.
It seems the Novavax has had some testing in the UK and may be effective against, at least some of, the mutations beginning to show up.

My knowledge is still very limited, but I'm inclined to favor the Novavax.
Not sure if or when it may become available here.
I will begin to start watching this more closely.

They seem to be hiding info about what type[s] are being administered around here:  what and where?

Was a Democrat until gun control became a knee jerk, then a Republican until the crazies took over, back to being a nonpartisan again.
This time, I can no longer participate in the primary.

I have read that Pfizer is being administered at HMC, which is my preference. This is assuming that I may be eligible for the vaccine at some point in the distant future to be announced "soon". Sorry, I can't remember where I read this.
Certainty will be the death of us.

I'm holding out for the J&J. Current policy is "you take what is offered".

Biden claims "enough doses by end of May", but that doesn't account for distribution. State DOH is administering 40K/week, Ige claims we can do double that, divide by the population, I'm not eligible until 2022. Hopefully by then there will be a choice.

The bigger problem is the constant revision of "essential". Hotel workers? Maybe. Auto dealerships? Really?

Given that the J&J jab travels better than all the others, and consumes half the distribution infrastructure, places like Alaska and Hawaii should be getting most of it. But we don't live in a common sense world.

There's also no "most" -- while Merck is helping out with manufacturing capacity, they won't have quantity until the end of April.
