Interesting, everyone but Carrie that posted to this thread seems to be using their real name... well, Blake sort of gussied his up. Obviously, I use my real name on this and every other forum. It does not make sense for me not to be me. I agree with Damon, I would like to hear some of the rest of you choose your Punaweb names.

With a more common name, I rarely find availability unless it is a brand new forum. Even +15 years ago when aloha.net was starting out - (old school - it was a big dial up deal) I couldnt get Cat or Catherine - I had to use cat127.

Please Damon, It is not your job to disinvite people to Punaweb or play cyber-cop here. I've told you this before. You do have your own venue to display your talents. Dakine has his points and so do you. On this topic at this time 25% of the posts are from you and about you. I put up with it mainly because I understand that you are generally well intended. But you do have rather thin skin for placing yourself in this public role which you prefer.

Please relax. If this topic continues on a Damon about Damon track instead of why people choose their cyber names then I will bury it.

I like that Eightfingers. It reminds me of the day I started working at my Dad's cabinet shop in the '70s, he held up both hands and said to me, "count my fingers". He was the only guy that worked there who had all his fingers. After years of woodworking and then becoming a plumber, I am happy I took his warning.

My decision to use a nickname is also a matter of safety, what if someone did really nasty things using your real name.

My nickname LavaZone1 is discriptive of my interest and investment on the island.

Hey Damon, What’s up with this?

Dakine calls you an “egotistical maniac” and then Rob reprehends you. It just don’t add up.

I got the name Lotus as a nick name for one of my tattoos. And for those of you who have never seen me in person.... I have what some people might call a giant lotus tattoo across my chest. Anyway, the name was given to me at Burning Man about 6 years ago and just sorta stuck. I like it.

"How do you know i am mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the cat "or you wouldnt have come here."

Identification of the players and location on a crowded net was important - this was all pre cell phone, sailors used the vhf & ssb radio to keep in touch, pass info and offer help to those in trouble. All while moving about the world at six knotts.

In the 90's bullwinkle bought a 8088 machine and went back to school for the second time - the handle stuck

More folks know me as Bullwinkle than my “real” name - grin.

Francine & Renee... the name you two chose is great and it has a beautiful meaning as well. I do have to say, it took me a while to put some of you with unique names together with your real names. I knew Joey for a really long time before I knew who he was on Punaweb. Same goes for you two. It is also interesting when a couple share a name, or when only one person in the couple is the one communicating on Punaweb. My husband is a "read only" member.

As far as the "girls" and "boys" moniker goes, that is fine unless, like some of us, you have a lot of couples to deal with like we do, in that case you always have to say their names anyway to define them.

me, i'm not trying to hide behind my username. i picked it because of it's ties to the big island and it's the name of a rain for hilo or the sound the rain makes when it falls on the lehua blossom.

in several threads/posts, i've signed our real names and those who have met us in person know us as francine and renee except for one of the scuba members. he still refers either/both of us as kani-lehua. just like blake and lynn are referred to as the boys, we are often referred to as the girls.
