Its a new age Jim, and I venture unlike the one you grew up in.
I have a friend that is now Captain on a police force outside of Nashville, Tennessee. She says about her job, "we just want to be alive at the end of the day". I will agree, if someone in authority yells "stop!", and the person does not follow that simple one word command, then they are unpredictable.
With that one act of unpredictable behavior, what could be next? There can be all sorts of possibilities thrown out, but not following that one word command (by someone in authority) pretty much opened himself up to "force" being used in this situation.
If the guy was flying his drone and told to stop and said "let me bring it in", and got tased...possibly excessive force. Thing is...could also be seen as threat not to stop immediately. Why? Boston Marathon popped into my head...nobody was expecting an explosion that day. What about all the times people have to throw away drinks, large tubes of toothpaste, and/or hair products at the airport?
Yes Pog, we live in a different world now. Small cities even find "cells". Although I would like to think highly doubtful anything like that would happen in this beautiful place, we do live in a cruel world. I think 9/11 changed the mentality of law enforcement and how it seems we have to be on guard.
In stating all this, by no means am I saying he was/is a terrorist, but I agree that the world has changed...as well as reactions by law enforcement.
Although some may think this might be a bit inappropriate, this kind of sums up what should be done to avoid problems such as excessive force by the authorities....
