Yes I agree 100%!

This all seems very petty. Growing kids are eating machines. A kid that gets hungry at school doesn't mean they have bad parents.

And I've known poor people who are much better parents than some of my rich friends.

I just want to point out that these snacks are going directly to the kids while they are at club and are in no way benefiting the parents who are generally unable to provide anything extra above 1 family meal a day
The food is not going home into anyone's pantry but is being eaten fault by hungry kids who may have gotten school meals but won't be picked up from club till 6:00 and it's a long wait between school lunch and a 630 dinner, PS my daughter works at the club that's how I know

So you define feeding hungry kids as giving PARENTS more handouts? Do you think kids of irresponsible parents chose to have parents who don't make sure they have enough to eat?

We all know the EBT issue here. The more other freebies you give out, the more the parents end up with. There has to be a way to stop the irresponsible parent from starving their own children.

Just to point out that feeding a hungry child a snack while they are at club does not actually reward the parent, it has nothing to do with the parents. Yes these kids get school lunch but it is a long time between school lunch and a six o'clock dinner when your a growing kid.kids don't take these snacks home they are distributed from club, which by the way is a bon profit that only charges parents $10 a year,

Where are my free snacks? This program discriminates against the working and the aged!

Lol! Be careful though randomq. Questioning it in any way can lead to harsh criticism.

There are senior centers all over the island where the aged can get free snacks. The working poor regularly line up at food banks too.

All of you that are so frantically grasping your resentment that a few kids get fed in Pahoa just amazes me, you remind me of characters from Charles Dickens' cautionary tales of greed and callousness in Victorian era England.

I am happy that the children of loser parents are being fed.

I would prefer that they go hungry and that CPS be involved to find out why they are not being fed at home.

Rather than enabling crappy parents, why not prosecute them?

Kids can be hungry without being neglected, and hungry kids need to eat. In fact growing kids seem to constantly need to eat, regardless of their parents socio-economic status.

I know I was always hungry after school, especially when I hit those big growth spurts where it seemed like all I did was sleep and eat. But I went home to a house with a well stocked refrigerator and pantry after school, not an after school program like Boys and Girls Club. That was in a time and place where it was safe for a kid to go home to an empty house until my parents got home from work.
